I had a similar deal at the fish camp. I'd just say "put it on my granddaddy's bill." Once he found out how many Butterfingers and Mtn. Dews I was buying, he made me work it off at the bait store. It was a good setup for an 8-year-old. I organized the shelves, swept the floor, and got paid with soda and candy.

For sure man. Great way for a kid to build some character.

Times have certainly changed. No way in hell I’d let my kids walk unattended on 197 like we did when I was young. Plus Kastners closed their doors many moons ago. At least Laprades is still going. Albeit a completely different setup/atmosphere to what it once was.

My kids earn $ doing house chores and yard work. My oldest (10) set a goal to buy a racing go-kart. He made flyers & walked dogs, washed cars, did yard work for neighbors, and sold snow-cones on the curb, saving up his $ for 14 months. I told him I'd match what he saved, dollar for dollar, and the son of a gun handed me $740 a few months ago. it was a gut-check on my bank account but I was proud of him. We're going go-kart racing real soon.

We live 9/10 of a mile from a shopping center. The neighborhood kids walk/ride bikes to the drug store for candy & drinks. I'm a little nervous but they're traveling on a neighborhood street. I had to end it though when my 5yo rode there on her bike and back home without telling anyone. We found her sitting in the recliner with a lap full of candy. I was secretly proud of her initiative but said she could not travel alone until she's older.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
When I was about 7/8, my dad took me into ToysRUs, and said you could have anything you want in here.
We went inside played with everything for hours, wrote a list.
The. He took me to the front of the store, we walked out, hey wait a sec...I didn’t get anything.!!
We walked back to the truck, where he and I went over the list.
Prioritizing what I really wanted and what was just catching my eye.
At that point I knew what I really wanted. Then he wrote me a list of chores and said, do this and we will come back next weekend and get exactly what it is you want.
I have carried this with me my whole life.
If you have a kid, I highly recommend you doing this. The things I learned from my day that one day, has made me who I am today.

Absolutely. We talk about needs & wants often. I keep a list as an example for the kids and review it with them to discuss their own needs & wants. My 10yo has it down. If he has $20 burning a hole in his pocket, I ask "what do you need & what do you want? Think about those two things and how best to spend that $20, if you need to spend it at all."

Hey- what trailer adapter do y'all recommend? I have an old one I bought from U-Haul years ago that's falling apart. I'm going from the round receptacle toa. 4-pin connection.

    Second Q:
My front left turn signal keeps burning out and my tow-lights won't operate. Is this likely a fuse issue or a relay issue? Related?

I went with a hopkins (48470) 7 blade and 4 & 5 pin connector and have been very pleased. I mounted it in the bumper to get it out of the way since I broke the OEM one.

I’ve had a Reese 7-4 adapter ever since 2005, works great and inexpensive.

As for the turn signal, are you saying that the bulb keeps blowing out (and the others are fine)? I know it sounds dumb but make sure it’s seated properly in the socket. Sometimes they take a little force and should click a little bit when seated. Of course, check your fuses with a multimeter just to be sure (sometimes I’ve found that a fuse looks good but has such a small crack in it you can’t see with your eye).

For the tow lights, I’d check continuity at your 7way plug first. It’s possible that your adapter is just bad.
