Rubbing after 5100, ome Springs, leafs and 17x9” fuel shock w 285 bfg.

Currently have 888 springs on 2020 taco doing the lift vs the 5100...set at zero. I’m getting rubbing on turn with compression. If I raise the the 5100 up will achieve more lift than just 888 springs alone alone?

 

You can't lift your way out of rubbing on compression. The tire is just returning to where it started before the lift. You need to either move the tire forward (increasing caster using lca can bolts and alignment) or trim the offending material.

I'm guessing those wheels have a negative offset? That helps your 285 clear the UCA but causes a wider scrub (path of the tire while turning) radius.

Someone will come along and correct my terminology but basically you need some combo of alignment or trim/reshape to get rid of the rub. Increase lift can make it seem gone until you stuff the tire.

 

^ sounds about right. I can fit a 285 too, but trimming is irreversible so I'm sticking with a 265 to prevent that rub.

 

I also did uca but assume doesn’t help rear front tire clearance

Max your caster with LCA. Get a CMC. Heat and reshape fender liners. Cut what can't be massaged.

Also correct. Your aftermarket UCA most likely has caster built in but will move the tire backwards.

How many miles do you have on the tires, if you are just barely rubbing they might wear down enough in a few thousand miles that you will no longer be rubbing. Really a CMC is no big deal. Plenty of places out there at are reasonably priced and come out looking super clean!

 

What wheels are you running?

 

Im putting ko2 285/70/17 on the same setup 5100/888 set at 0. My wheels are ray10 -10 offsett. Will i rub?

Especially in a bout 2k miles when the 888 start to sag out like a pair of 50 year old tits.

this shit never ends, there all gonna rub. If you can’t bolt them up stock and not rub there gonna rub. Period.

 

Whats 22mm. Had them on with no rub whatsoever. Well gonna do it anyways and fix what needs fixing afterwards

Mate just pony up for a CMC and some plastic trimming. It's really really not the end of the world.

 

Or put the 5100 up a notch or just get more positive wheels i guess or the worse option and go back to 265s
