EBay Refund requests

Hey all off topic but i want to know if im screwed. Sold a genuine and 100 percent authentic ring on ebay last month and the guy is asking for a refund claiming the stones are fake nearly a month later. Scared he took out the real ones and put fakes in and is trying to get his money back.. do you think ebay will back me on this its his word against mine.

 

oh, i also have a no returns policy, and a 100 percent buyer and sellers feedback. i just dont want to get screwed here

 

I just got fucked due to a stupid buyer, similar thing, he claimed damage to a 1940 typerwriter I sent and visa/ebay sided with him.

Try not to get as mad as I did haha

 

For the past few years ebay has let buyers get away with everything and made it difficult for sellers. I know several sellers that have been burned by shady buyers. Myself along with others I know will no longer sell there.

yea as it sits im no longer going to sell on ebay. quite ridiculous

 

hes also had the item since june 3rd,, so almost at the wits end of the term policy, he most definitely swapped this shit with fake stones.

 

Plus if they paid with paypal they have 6 months to make up an excuse. I sold a vintage bmx to a guy and days before the paypal time limit he made a claim saying that it was a faulty part. He said that his bars kept slipping when he'd do an endo. I asked if his bars were recently painted or powdered and they were freshly powder coated but he said he'd been building bikes since he was 10.

I was worried about him not shipping the same part back but he did send it back. I did end up losing a few dollars because he wanted a full refund plus extra for shipping it back.

It was an unnecessary inconvenience.

 

yea but the thing is this shipping ended up being 60 dollars out of my pocket, i will be out another 60 dollars and then if he decided to switch it out and scam me im out a lot, wouldnt be uncommon to take the stones and switch them out

 

I think im going to ask ebay if the Buyer can send it to a GIA certified appraiser,, to make sure everything is authentic before he ships it back out,, i dont know what else to do. I think im SOL and i really dont have the money to be out right now.

 

if it was anything else i would be able to return it without worrying about it, but this is just scary because it is a very expensive item that could be tampered with.

 

Here's a link to an article I thought about when you mentioned stone swapping. Ebay and paypal side with buyer just about all of the time. They're not going to make him go to an appraiser since they want to keep customers happy. If he down swap the stones you can probably make a police report or something for fraud. Maybe he has a habit of abusing the system since it's easy to abuse. I sold a new in the box xm radio boombox adapter no reserve years ago and was out a few dollars after fees and shipping. Then the lowlife buyer filed a DOA claim and wanted $40 for him to ship it to me. It was under $20 to ship to him but he wanted to be paid for his time.

In the end he said he had a bad power outlet and it wasn't DOA after I found his number online and called his house. I also wasn't in the spot to be negative and had resorted to selling stuff I had on ebay and local classifieds.

at the end of the day how does it even work, if i refuse to refund what can be done? i have a no return policy and the account i use for ebay has since had all money taken out.

 

Your account will just be negative. That's how I found out I had a claim against me. The buyer didn't give me any sort of heads up. I got an email letting me know about my negative paypal balance.

 

what if i try closing my current checking that ebay is hooked up to? LMAO

 

also, its not paypal, all my payments get straight too my bank account, paypal is not the middle man here.

 

I went through old emails and one from paypal said if your account is negative for 120 days they'll close your account. I don't know if they'll attempt to get it out of your checking.

 

Right that's how it is when you sell buy as a buyer he most likey used paypal and he has 6 months of buyer protection.

 

so would my ebay account be negative? i dont care if they close my account, i dont wanna deal with them anymore to begin with

 

That I don't know about. I haven't sold on ebay in years. My last two sales transactions were complete headaches and not worth the trouble. I also had a buyer back out and say they were hacked when they bid on an item and didn't want to pay. First I kept sending reminder invoices and then the story.. after that I was done. I've continued to sell stuff online but it's either to people locally or on enthusiast websites. I've sold Tacoma parts here on TW, mtn bike parts on pinkbike and bmx parts on bmxmuseum. Ebay probably would've brought more money but more trouble too.
