how do you lower with the ratchet straps? Once you loosen them, don’t they just drop?

I don’t do this method, merely a suggestion. But if I did I would support the weight of tent by hand one corner at a time and slowly loosen each strap. Like I said, it wouldn’t be the easiest thing but it would be cheap and effective

Note to self: You can reach deep sleep in the desert night heat and not be awaken by the roar of a 4Runner V8 at 4am. Note to others: Wear some earplugs if sleeping around me.

New RTT owner. Can’t wait for it to come in. Got the OVS Nomadic 3 Arctic, which will be placed on flat bed bars

I've thought of doing this and storing on the side of my house. How do you keep it from toppling over?

Big Bear with the kiddos a couple of weeks ago. First time out with the DA Warrior XL. Was a good time.

it's a tepui kukenam...it stands up on edge & is pretty stable...never close to toppling over. other tent models may not be so steady.
really like your pic above of the kids enjoying the "treehouse"...nice!

ah, gotcha. This is why I originally wanted an iKamper x-cover so I could easily store it on its side but they discontinued that model for the time being.

How do you know if your RTT needs 2 or 3 support beams?

Most websites should have a max distance between supports

Got a nice photo of the truck and tent at sunrise along Comb Ridge in Utah. That magic hour when the sky turns pink.

Is anyone on here running the new Gen 3.1 Expedition Tent from Alu-Cab?

Did a few different searches and surprisingly came up with nothing at all. Would be curious to hear some first hand experience if anyone has one

Since Desert Armor decided it’s their job to teach me a lesson, I’ve been looking for a different RTT, today I’ve been thinking about the Roofnest Condor. Anyone have any feedback about it?

I don't know much about the Condor, but take a look at Outer Tents. They are relatively new but have great reviews, better prices and probably roll outta the same Chinese factory.

I think I ended up there once, they have one I was liking, but didn’t feel to good about their site. And my spiddy senses our on overload now after my Desert Armor experience.

I’ll go look for them again.

Their site is much better now and the communication is great but...I'm waiting on my tent as well so I may be disappointed. I have an Osprey Slimline Large on order.

Yes, I have looked at them already, the other concern I have, is the length. Hoping to have something fit directly over my short bed. I hit my head on canoes and other things on the truck rack, don’t want to have 6 inches overhanging at this point. In fact, one option is to trade the Tacoma and get a 4Runner when the next model year comes out, thus having more roof length.
