Oh the poor guy! If you didn't live so far away, I'd take him in. I've got plenty of leftover Fancy Feast. :) Someone please help this guy!

I will try to get a picture of him. It will be hard for me to take one now as he hides from me because I'm the stranger that feeds him but I'll see if I can get something.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I'm assuming he is with you. This might help. We had a similar situation with my mom during Covid and she was in the hospital and rehab. If you can, get some of your sisters things to keep in the cats space, and keep a radio (talk radio) on if you can. The voices may help with normalizing sounds. Your sisters items bring familiarity. Last but not least, there is a calming pheromone you can get as a plug in like a Glade air freshener. I'm told it's the pheromone that new mom cats give off to calm the kittens. (?) It works, but may take a few days to kick in. Hope it helps.

No he isn't with me he is still at her house which was shared with my mother until she went in to a nursing home. He won't come to me and just runs and hides when I go to feed him. I'm a strange guy to him. I think I'm probably going to have to trap him to get him out of the house. the situation currently didn't even start off well. he was left alone for about 4 days with no food or water before I was told my sister was taken away and the cat needed fed. No one had or knew where the keys to the place were either so I had to break in and change the locks at my expense. This whole cat thing is part of the mess that I've had dumped on me. I just want to find a better place for the poor cat that's the most innocent victim of it all. I will try to put on a radio or something with talk for him.

That's the situation we were in. She wouldn't come to my sister, but would come to me as I helped my mom adopt her. The try the radio or TV, lower volume so there he is familiarity with the voices. The pheromone treatment may also help. The best approach, which will be time consuming, is just to spend time there so he will get used to you. A can of tuna can also be your best friend. Leave a small portion where he is when you go. If he takes it, gradually move it away from his security / comfort area and make him come out to get it. Cat treats will also help with this. I don't know your situation, but go over there and make dinner and spend a few hours. Take a laptop. Just be there if this is something you can do. You almost have to approach him like he is feral and build trust.

I would like to do all that but the situation isn't good there that even I dont want to spend time there. the place is a filthy hoarder house so I don't want to be there myself.. making dinner there is for sure not an option. The time I have is limited because I'm working a full time job and have my own home and pet to care for. spending hours every day there is unfortunately a bit more than I'm able to do.

Sorry to hear all that. Try the treats and / or tuna. Small amounts as you don't what else might be there to feed on it. He will associate the tuna to you and that may help. Unfortunately, you may have to resort to the live trap. Do you know if he's ever been outside?

Yes she used to let him outside though that's not a great idea. he hasn't been out in weeks and I really don't want him to be a stray and contribute to that problem. Since he has been outside a farm or something might be a better home for him. I already have a live trap to use I got the other day but I have not deployed it since I at this time dont know where to take him once caught.

That's what I was thinking. He might make a good barn cat or something. I have relative in MI looking for one. But that's a bit much for a stressed out cat. (And driver.) Have you tried FB, posting it to a community page (not marketplace)? We have several unofficial rescues run by volunteers in the area that foster from their homes until permanent housing can be found.

I have run through all the local volunteer cat rescues and forster places I could find, I literally spent hours searching the internet and calling and emailing places and every place referred to me. every place said they were full or didn't respond. I am thinking about facebook but then I'd need some photos of him that I dont have and are difficult to take in this situation. my mom still has her cell phone (because I pay the bill)I asked if she had any photos to send me and was told she would look but was too busy with her life in the nursing home to do it right away:mad:.

He's just very scared & doesn't know what is going on. Cats are usually quite sensitive to their human companion & since there is none, this is the dilemma you face. You need to get him out of that place, asap! The trap & tuna should work. Maybe once outside, he'll be okay. It can't be any worse. Thanks 'Tiny Taco' for your help & Mike, I hope your difficult situation gets better. Keep us posted, you have our support.

Thank you Paul! She was a very pampered kitty. She had a good life... Wish she could've stuck around a few more years. Oh well. Love your avatar, looks like "I didn't do it!" :)

Well I tried to get a tv or Radio on for the poor cat. Can't wait the correct remotes for the tv. Got it turned on but it seems like something is wrong with the cable, I'm clueless about that since i don't have cable at my house. I tried the radio and the one I found didn't tune anything in on am or FM so I'm going to bring one over tomorrow.

Oh Mike, that cat must be scared to death by now. I wish I could be there to help you. An old clock radio or something, can of tuna in the trap should flush him out. Be patient. Cats hate change. Leave a window open or something, so he can get out, maybe.
