That image of that dust-storm is just about where I live... dust bearing down on my house.

    Don't worry is all transitory.....

It's crazy that the MINI I bought in April is worth $1600 more than I paid for it.

Who know maybe by the end of summer i'll sell it since there's a shortage of new ones.

2nd Gen Tacoma frames are prone to rusting in certain spots due to the partial boxing, laminated layers of metal, and poorly placed drain holes. I believe a contributing factor was poor rust proofing by the frame manufacturer as well. The most likely area is right up by the cat converters and cab mounts. This is really a rust belt concern.

Bottom line is Toyota was sued by someone who’s frame prematurely rotted out and, as a result of the lawsuit, Toyota offered a 12 year frame coverage (no cost frame replacement) if you get a rust hole 10mm or larger in your frame. The clock starts on the day you first register the truck.

I bought my truck in August 2009, so my deadline is August 2021. My frame was sprayed with a “corrosion resistant compound” (another settlement requirement) and has passed multiple inspections, but the out of pocket cost to replace or repair a rusted frame is just too big a risk on a 12 year old truck. It would go from being worth close to $20k to being worth parts and scrap.

FWIW, if the dealer had found a hole and replaced my frame, I probably would’ve kept my truck as it is a solid, reliable, vehicle. I don’t “need” a new truck - it is purely a risk / timing thing for me.

As an aside, the first thing I’ll do when I get my new truck is have the frame sprayed. Just cheap insurance here in the snow / salt belt area where I live.

I keep reading all these posts about selling . It makes sense if you plan to buy from a private party .At the dealer not so much since all the vehicles have mark ups .If I was in a financial situation I would sell my truck but I’m not so I can care less what it’s worth . I didn’t buy my truck as a investment. Sounds like a lot of people here didn’t actually buy the truck to enjoy it . Since they are giving it up just to have some change in their pocket .

My 2021 TRD sport I bought 6 weeks ago is on KBB for $1,600 more than I paid for it on the trade-in price, more than $4k more on the private sale price. My dad always used to moan about buying something that depreciated 25% the minute you put 2 of the 4 tires on the road outside the dealership. So much for that

I really think people started out buying it to enjoy it, but then this crazy market took hold and sometimes it's hard to resist crazy numbers like those flying around today. I love my house and have no intentions of selling, but if someone legitimate knocked on my door and said I'll give you $750k for your house that appraised for $265k last year, I'd be packing as we speak. Same thing with the truck. Love my truck and enjoy the heck out of it, but at the end of the day, it's a vehicle. Offer me enough and I'll live with 1 vehicle for now. But you are right in that it only makes sense if you are going to sell and hold off, otherwise you are buying into the same crazy market that will negate your gains.

I took advantage of the crazy prices. I traded in my 2016 4Runner SR5 with 101k miles for a new 2021 TRD OR DCSB that was in transit to the dealer. Still got $23k for the 4Runner, and put a whole bunch of positive equity into the Tacoma. The dealer has my 4Runner listed for $29k right now, but I only paid $32k for it in 2017 (one of the last three 2016's still on the lot)

Are you SURE it was YOUR truck? I'm sorry but I find it extremely hard to believe, even in the current car market, that someone payed roughly $38K ($8k more than it cost new) for an SR. I mean, that's thousands more than I paid for my TRD 4x4, new, with extended warranty. o_O

I'm not saying you're wrong, but that just sounds ludicrous to me. lol

I just made my appointment to get my frame inspected/coated, at the dealer. My plan while I am there was to inquire about trade-in for it and look into getting a '22 as mine will be paid off this year and I spent most of the years driving my truck on a long work commute (that I no longer have to make.) So I wanted to start fresh. Initially I was feeling pretty good about it, as the trade-in on mine should still be decent even though it has 150k on it. But I guess it all depends on what they are going to want for the new one. I was somewhat hoping that since things are returning to normal and there is no more free government money (at least I don't think so?) that maybe we are at least back down to MSRP prices? I guess we will see. If I have to keep mine, then so be it. But I was really wanting to grab a Trail Edition now and I would rather get the end of the 3rd-gen that jump into the 4th gen when they come out, I assume next year.

I bought a used 2020 Limited in December with 11000 miles. Last week I saw the exact same truck at another dealer, same miles listed for $9000 more than I paid. And, mine came with a Bed Rug and a Leer hard tonneau.

It'll be 2026, Toyota is selling way too many of these things to change anything
