Finally moved up to 255/80/17 from 265s. I've had a 2.5-3-in lift for a while now, but I hadn't got around to putting 33s on. So far so good.

Thanks to @Bannerman and a few others for motivating my to go with this size and Toyo AT3. And this thread has been invaluable. Now let's see how power and gas mileage on these bad boys

285/75R17 so went from 33.9 to 34.6 manufacture spec'd size.
With the bulbious side wall when airing down. I kept slicing sidewalls.

I'm sure these should air down awesome, with a nice long footprint. Even with the taller tire, I'd bet you have more clearance at the usual spot at the cab mount. Obviously plenty of clearance at the bumper lol

    What lift are you running?

I have a slight rub in the same spot as the 285s with the spacers. I still have to full bump it to see where else its going to hit. That will be in a few weeks with some front end work.
Lift is just Radflo coilovers and rear springs are All Dogs Performance pack. Waiting on shocks for rear relocation.

Those are sweet! Really not wanting to go taller than 33's so I can avoid a regear, but these are making it so hard to resist... :annoyed:

I always drive slow, I hope it's not too irresponsible to go up to this tall of a tire without rehearing lol

I'm also wanting to experiment with the minimum lift to run these, I like the idea of staying below 2" of lift

If I was smart, I'd go with a 33 and call it good for my daily driver... but where's the fun in that?

I'm regeared, 5.29s. Probably sitting about 2"+lil bit in the front. I do have an agressive CMC and with LCA at full max caster pushed forward the rub I get is right at the rear of the wheel well where the flare is.

Stay 33s, still regear. Unless your building for specific purpose. Mine is to run Prichett canyon, Rubi and a few other trails next year.

I feel like if I'm gonna spend the time and money on regear, I might as well go 35s right? I'm not afraid to do a body mount chop

I'm also not 100% sure if 4runners and tacos have the same tire clearances, I assume they're very similar

Is anyone running a 255/80R17 on a 9 inch rim? I see most people are running OEm or 7-7.5 inch wheels and I have a 17x9. The Falken website says they are made for 7-9 inch but I just don't know if I should push it without other people's first hand experience. I am looking into Falkens because 3 of my 9 month old BFG KO2's shit the bed on the trail yesterday (huge chunks got taken out of the sidewall). I am currently running a 285 but want to move to the skinny's to keep the weight down. 255/80 in a falken is 54lbs a tire and 285's are 63 lbs's a tire. My 285's in a BFG were 51lbs a tire which was the main reason I went with them.

Loving this thread, it's totally changed my view on what tires I want to get.

I like the thickness of my normal 265 but want a little more height. After research, the 34x10.5 KO2 is basically the exact same width but a taller height.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they a "true" 34? Are they worth the coin? Alternatively, what's a comparable tire for size and a light(er) weight?

I run these, great tire and weight isn't bad, but I feel like BFGs run small. Mine are only 32" mounted diameter

New member here with a '21 SR 4-cyl 4x4 AC. I'm planning on keeping the Destination LEs it came with for normal driving (will eventually replace with Defender LTXs) but want to get another set of steel wheels (take-offs or from CL) so I can use sturdier tires for trips. Not for extreme mud or rock crawling but mainly for the tougher sidewall so we can take it out west, can handle sharp rocks, etc etc.

I don't want to saddle this thing with 50+ lb KO2s so was thinking about going with something like the Firestone Destination XT in an E-rated LT215/85-16 (only weighs 35 lbs vs. the OEM 245/75-16 LE2s which are 31 lbs). I see a few people here have gone with that size over the years but that it is pretty uncommon and wanted to get some thoughts. I don't care at all about style/appearance, more about function and the most MPG since we'll be doing long trips when the AT tires are mounted.

Think places like this, Valley of the Gods, Big Bend...

Interesting. I'll have to keep on searching for now, seems like a true to size 34 is hard to find. If i'm paying for a 34, I want a 34! hahah.

Wow! Only 32" mounted? That's a lot smaller than I was hoping. On vehicle or off?

On vehicle, but even 35s mounted tend to measure 33"-34", you are probably better off with a 285/75R17, or a true 35. Toyo makes a 35x11.50 and Kenda makes a 35x10.5020191110_123444.jpg
