I've got one of those and love it. Lifesaver sometimes when doing townhouse parking lot projects.

I am not having issues if thats what you are thinking. I am building a brew room in my basement and wanting to have a drain so i dont have to mop the inevitable water splashes up. The room is gonna be epic. Super excited that Kristen is the most supportive wife ever.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I helped a neighbor do it back in MI. The biggest mess was cutting / breaking up the concrete. Process went quick beside that. How long is your run?

Don't know exactly yet. My guess is about 5ft but the max it could be is about 9ft. Also deciding whether I want a circle drain or a trough

Trough and a squeegee would be nice and a bit easier for clean up, but your breaking more concrete. That was a big dusty mess Do you have a window in the area? Either run shouldn't be too difficult.

POTENTIALLY it won't be more work to do a trough, if the pipe is where I think it is. But dusty yea. We shall see how it goes.

    Right on!
Yup, That sucks big time with the saw running and the major dust. definitely need a powerful exhaust fan/box fan in a window to pull all that out.
My thoughts are a circle, with a trap. some kinda lift pump, then tied in to your sewer.. The lift pump would only be needed if your sewer leaves the house higher than the new drain install (shooting from the hip on this thought.). I'd get with a Plumber and pick his brain about you idea.

A friend did a trough in his garage years ago. Then got tired of the funky left over smell from a little standing water in it. a few years later he changed the whole thing out for a circle style, and re did the concrete in the same location as to fill in the old cut for the trough.

Accurate. We have this in our basement as it is below the sewer line from the street.

@ilubtimmyhos - your's is somewhat finished from what I think you've said, so you should have this in place if the basement floor is below the sewer line to the street. And a valid point on the circle drain / pea trap.

That all makes sense. Luckily, my drain is below the basement and we already have a full bath down there so that parts easy. The circle drain would def be easier, but the trough is nice for the clean up aspect. All to be determined. Electrical first. Then I can figure out the rest. Just so sick of the temperature outside decided when I can comfortably brew. LOL

If you could enough of a slope to drain off the water, the trough would be a nice way to go. But that may take some creative cement work to get an efficient slope.

Ok..... try this one on for size.

Your trough, with a trap to keep any smells down. then that helps with water squirt to the floor, then a squeegee for clean up assuming you have a flat basement floor.

I havent drilled a drain, but for work we had a contractor drill several 8" diameter holes holes in 8" thick concrete and I did learn some things. Your holes probably won't be that big, but they used a drill that used concrete anchors to attach to the floor so they could apply adequate pressure without it catching and whipping around like a hand drill would. At the end they just cut the anchors flush with the floors. Not sure if you're okay having some cut-off anchors in your floor or filling in the holes. I don't know if HD or somewhere would rent these, but might be worth the tool rental cost. Maybe theres an option to just weigh it down for smaller holes?

For the dust, keep water on it and it will stay down. They used one of those snake like under door air/water barrier thingies to keep it contained and a shop vac to clean up the water.

edit: whoops only half of this is relevant I guess since I was thinking like a grate on a circular hole that then feeds out instead of a trough.

I just noticed that it has a vacuum base so no need to drill anchors. That's neato burrito.

now that is neato burrito! and no hassle of cutting the anchors flush or mess on the floor. It had that water hose attachment ring that squirts water right on the dusties and keeps the lungs (and osha) happy
