Just picked up a 2006 DCSB TRDOR and am loving it so far! I've always owned manual cars(aside from a short stint owning an auto '98 4runner due to a broken ankle) so when I saw this one pop up at a local dealer I had to have it!

I do have one question, this is my first truck and before this I've had more performance related cars, traded in a 2010 WRX for the Taco. Going from 2nd to 3rd can be a little grindy if I try to just throw it in, seems like I have to pull it out of second, let the revs drop and then put it into third. Is this common for these trucks? Seems like if I shift around 2500 it goes pretty smooth but if I wind it up past that I get some rev hang and I have to wait a half a second before throwing it into third. Would going to a short throw alleviate this problem? Or am I just being crazy expecting it to shift like my old WRX or Lancer?

I had an 08 taco and found a great improvement with the shifting by throwing the core unit on. It doesn't really do anything for rev hang however.

Most of the rev hang is programmed in the ecm. If inclined, Hptuners has the software to eliminate the rev hang or adjust it to a preferred level (along with tuning capabilities). Deleting the fluid accumulator eliminates deadband in the clutch as well.

The manual transmission sold me on my truck. My parents have a 12' dbl cab long bead in auto.My 12' dbl can short bed feels way sportier to drive but I get 4 mpg less on the hwy.20190622_170408.jpg

Thanks for the tips! I was just reading about the Hptuners software, I'll have to look into that.
