There you go, AMC maker of the Jeep before Chysler got a hold of them. They just don't make fine automobiles like that anymore. Just think if the internet was around when the Vega or Pinto were around. Those blogs would have been a total love fest.
Chevy Vega owner; how often do you change oil, most responses; I don't, I just change the filter every 3k I add 6 qts of oil between filter changes. Then you get that one guy; I slowed down the oil consumption to 2qts between changes I run 2qts 90wt, 2qts 40wt and 2 cans of stp oil treatment.

 

AMC was just another corporation to hold the ownership of Jeep. AMC started the watering down of the Jeep by killing the CJ series which at the time still had a clear lineage to the WWII Jeep. AMC created the Wrangler and contracted Renault to create the unibody series that looked like Jeeps but were just cheap little econoboxes. FIAT reintroduced cheap unibody "Jeep" production.

The last real Jeep was made in 1970.


1940 the US Army announced a competition for a contract to design a light utility vehicle to over 100 US companies. Only American Bantam and Willys responded.

• 1940: "Jeep" invented by the American Bantam Company, originally named American Bantam Reconnaissance Car. Harry Miller was VP/chief engineer at Bantam. Harry Miller designed and built overhead cam engines, 4 valve engines hemispherical combustion chamber engines as early as 1925. He built the first outboard boat motor for his next door neighbor Ole Evinrude, who further developed it and created the outboard industry. Later Miller designed and built Indy 500 winning cars with backing from Preston Tucker.

Miller and his team completed their design in 2 days and submitted a running prototype in 49 days. The Army bought the design and gave the drawings to Willys and Ford to produce, declaring American Bantam too small to meet production.

After the WWII Willys Overland started civilian production of the Jeep. They advertised it heavily since they had no other vehicle design ready for production. They aimed it towards farmers and rural markets with mostly unpaved roads. Their advertisements claimed that they invented the Jeep and were promptly sued by American Bantam. The FTC ruled in favor of American Bantam and issued a cease and desist order. Later they came up with an alternative line "We wrote the book on four wheel drive" which is true, they wrote the instruction manual for the Army, even though they didn't design it.

The automobile industry is a dirty game, the story of Jeep is about as ugly as it gets.

Personally, I've never seen such awful colors available. Bought a 21 in silver, would have settled for a magnetic grey or white. Just my opinion.

 

Hey now, don't hate on AMC the greatest American car company ever! You must be confusing them with AMF that owned Harley.

 

I wanted cement (too late for that now). I could settle for silver instead but Toyota doesn't offer it on the access cab TRD off road. I just want a color that will make the contrasting black fenders/bumpers and Toyota stripes stand out. There is nothing like that for 2022.

Black, magnetic, navy, army green : too dark.
Super white: no clear coat which is a deal breaker.
Lunar Rock: Looks great on the Rav4 with a white roof, but I'm not sure about it on the Tacoma. The greenish tint makes it hard to add accents in any color.

 

AMC was ran (poorly) by Mitt Romney's dad.

This. My last car was a 3 stage white paint, and it was more difficult to color match after someone hit my rear bumper/fender...

 

Dammit!!!! A fella just can’t win these days.

 

My next predictions are:

• The 2025 Tacoma will come in a "Frame Rust Red" colour to commemorate the 1995 - 2015 Tacoma's.
• They will offer a Mike "everything but the seatbelt bracket" Sweer's Edition where they'll offer colour options for the now newly upgraded seat belt bracket.

Although I also love voodoo blue and cement.

What ever became of the Chuck Norris edition, was it discontinued with Quicksand?
