I just came out from Tower Lake yesterday through Leavitt, you could tell people had camp fires going the night before, its obviously high fire danger right now, but maybe they’re letting people have fires in the rings. The mosquitos weren't too bad there either.

edit: sorry wasn't sure if you were talking the lake or the meadow

Well damn that's impeccable timing on my end. Also not surprised with the holiday weekend.

I have been wanting to run it but haven't with the reasons you just stated. One day, one day...

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
I think I'm cool on just running NRT a couple more times this year.

    Slick Rock
    Deer Valley
    Rubicon
and others will have to wait for next year. I think I've said "next year" a couple years now... But I think this time it's real.

5.29s and front locker are happening this year.

Rear leafs are going to get situated this year. (still trying to decide between 63s and Alcan or Deaver customs) 63s are pretty permanent... and I just am not sure about what moving my shackles back 4 inches will do to the departure angle.

So I was working on the 4Runner I bought with a dead cylinder and I think I have found the problem,

I don't think this valve bolt is torqued to spec.

    IMG_1561.jpg
This is the intake valve in the zero compression cylinder, the valve doesn't open far enough to let the bolt fall all the way in,
So it just sat there not allowing the valve to close.

Curious. And too lazy to look it up.

What's the normal break in proceedure on new gears? Particularly front diff with manual locking hubs.

    add fluid
    drive 500 miles
    change fluid

as for front diff with manual locking hubs... no clue.
My assumption would be do an easy couple trails and then drain

Come to the Central Valley. We have a lot of OHV trails right next to each other. These are some of the most popular in the state and half of them end up at a lake. They range in all difficulty with all kinds of obstacles. That’s were I got most of my experiences.

Dusy Ershim is a very iconic trail that takes 3-4 days and you definitely need a built truck for this, not for the faint of heart. In my trucks state and how I wheel I’m not even ready lol

Here are summaries of all the trails available.
    https://shaverlake.com/off-road-trails/

I down to do some more NoCal trails. I also would like to do some SoCal trails and a couple out of state trails, Utah, Colorado etc.

I’m trying to do as many trails in IFS form before I make the jump to SAS. It’s all about the journey.

A lot of crap and too much money spent
I followed this process and broke the gears in within a week. Not hard unless you don’t drive the truck at all.

The problem is, I can drive to the moon and back, but if the manual hubs aren't locked, and I'm not in 4wd, I'm not breaking anything in, because nothing is happening in the front diff.

I ran Bald Eagle last summer, super nice out there. A week later, all the fires happened sadly. I definitely want to run more out there. Being in Modesto, I'm somewhat in a middle ground for trails north and south of me

Just spoke to ECGS. They said front is not nearly as critical as the rear. Just lock the hubs and put it in 4wd and do some light fire road runnin. Do some heat cycles rather than just running all day long without stopping. Do that a couple times before I head out for Slick Rock... That seems totally doable.

Oh.... oh wait... did you just feel that?

Yes Bald is a very popular trail. You can make it as easy or as hard as you like. It helps that at the top you have a great hangout spot and views. They just had their Moonlight Madness event this past weekend up there.

what other trails have you done down here? I read up on Iron Lakes and I just did Shuteye the other day. Was a bit nervous doing a shakedown run but a little bit of :rasta::rasta::rasta: helped out
