This is how they look attached to the rotor.

In the second image, there is 18 stage compressor blading (buckets) and three stage Turbine blades.

Starting in late September, there will be two combustion turbines, three stage/single reheat steam turbine, and two generators torn apart for 65 days at my job site. That will be “fun” and hopefully the last time before I retire.

Both. Guess it’s the price we pay to have electrical power.

Our power company been running on coal since they built it, until they bought the local gas company and ran natural gas to it. I think they’re in the process of converting it now.

Oof. Get ready for rates to go up. Coal units are around 34% efficient. Coal was cheap and made it a good alternative for generation.

Firing a boiler with NG is so expensive. We have one unit like that and only run it in emergencies. The cost is usually double or more from a combined cycle power plant. Depending on what the NG is being traded at, but from what I have been seeing across the board is ~3.00 per M/BTU, which would make gas fired boilers in the 50+ per megawatt price range.

This is probably a temporary solution until they can get another power plant built or more alternate generation.
