I admire (envy) the enthusiasm -- unfortunately it seems one day you wake up and find yourself struck down by hit and run years, you put yourself in drive and nothing happens. :sadviolin:

 And it really ticks me off .

Had a fellow at work with an Explorer, he came out for lunch and found the entire plastic rocker panel cover laying in the parking lot beneath the car -- everything behind it had rusted away.

No! Just the opposite because I've had large steam turbines apart and been up close to them several times. I see the similarities now to the aircraft turbines too. One thing I haven't seen though is any of the rotating assemblies taken apart.
Those are cool pictures, looks like they may be setting up to do some machining on it.??

I see your talking boilers not turbines we just had constructed 7 or 8 Gas fired Turbine power plants within 200 miles.

Yeah, imagine surface speed at the tips of those blades, (1,800 shaft rpm?). Then they run 24/7 365.

I'm 53 and most days feel pretty good still. Strange thing is when I get up in the mornings my feet hurt. Sometimes after spending some day hunched over a lathe and mill all day wreaks havoc on my back. At least my feet don't hurt bad after I'm up and moving around.
But yeah getting old and body wearing out no fun. My Uncle Jim, he's 82 and still pretty mentally sharp but cant get around without walkers. That's what 50 years of framing houses and finish carpentry will do to ya I suppose.

Are you talking about a power turbine for a gas turbine or a reheat section for a steam turbine?

This is a hot gas path inspection and fouling of the compressor really reduces output. Twice a year, we shut down a unit, crank cool it, then perform an offline water wash, dry it, fire it within 24 hours. It's not uncommon to gain back lost efficiency of 3-4 megawatts per unit.

This is a GE Frame 7 gas turbine rotor.

Here is an Alstom steam turbine rotor with new blades being installed.
