Hey TW I need some ideas. I want to make a bike workstand, and unlike the ones you can go buy I want to mount it to my work bench. Now there is one like this for sale but it's around 100 bucks still. Kinda want to make/fabricate it although I do not have any welding capabilities. Any ideas?

    Work bench corner for mounting

    Anyone have similar setup? Suggestions?

    thanks all

Id be careful with that table and putting a bike on there. It looks kind of skinny and may tip over with enough weight. Also, think of how low that bike will be trying to work on it.

I will get a pic. of my set up. I have a work bench that sits about 4' high and drilled a hole just big enough to get my park tool stand (without legs obviously) in and drilled out about half way through the shelf below for the pipe on the stand to sit inside. This gives me just the right height to work on the bikes when standing up.

    Thanks, good advice.

Also I have a roll around stool that I'd use for it...but I'm liking your setup.

How much the park tool cost ya?

sorry for the late response. the stand cost me about $140. It breaks down really well and the legs collapse as well. The stand is about 5 years old now and nothing is wrong with it. Really well maybe and perfect height. I don't have to bend over at all which is nice for my back.

If you have a high ceiling this works...

If you look at my pic i posted in the upper right (kinda) you an see the head tube of my ironhorse (note: i do not have the fork on it like i normally do)
That is held on the back tire by one of these:

I have 2 of them... one for the bike itself and have the fork resting on the wall with a shop rag in between. the other for the front tire.

then... (where the high ceiling comes in handy)
    I have this set up:
    DSC_0009_6e67f795032cd78e02c8993ce8c725ffaab0b558.jpg
It works but can be a pita to get the bike down. especially if you are kinda sore.

this set up is much more convenient:

I got both bikes, and all my other equipment in to an area of about 5'x4' and have enough clearance to walk under the bike on the ceiling and not get smacked in the head.

I have had several types of stands over the years and I find the best is my bike rack that mounts in the hitch of my truck. I can work on my bikes outside or back the truck into the garage & work on them in there. Easy to store as well.

NEVER use a workstand to clamp on the frame itself. None of the tubes are meant for that type of compression. Use your seatpost.

This is the set up I have in my garage. I have been looking to get something I could attach to my work bench. This storage rack works ok for light maintenance and keeping all the bikes in one location off the floor. Like to see what you come up with..

I noticed that your bike is carbon fiber. I wouldn't clamp to the top tube. You may crack your frame. Clamp only to the seat post.

I have seen some pipe clamps with padded jaws that you may be able to attach to your bench.

x3. first mistake i ever made in my short stint as a bike mech. i clamped down on a cable tab. crushed that top tube with very little effort.

at home i just bought a Park stand. no issues. when the weather is nice, i like working on bikes outside.

I have the exact same road bike as in your photos. (great bike) I use a Park commercial bike stand that has a rotating clamping head on it. Yes ALLWAYS clamp off the seat post. I do the same for my all Mt. Bike as well.

I used to wrench for a bit out of collage and having a full rotating head on the work stand is a bit of a must. Makes a big difference to be able to flip the bike upside down to work on it.
