Anybody know why the value has sky rocketed in the last couple of months for Tacomas? Bought my 2011 access cab 4wd manual for $16500 (w.leer cap) in 2017 at 79k and now its at 155k. I'm seeing similar 2011 Tacomas going for upwards of $19000 currently. Maybe delayed imports are causing this? Curious to hear others thoughts.

The chip shortage has slowed and even stopped some new vehicle production and kept new vehicle inventories low, which has caused the prices to go up in many areas. This also affects the used car markets as they then became much more sought after by buyers.
Plus other economic factors. But that's the big influence.

Copy. Was thinking about doing a trade in but don't know if I'd get a great deal since it looks like all prices are going up. Thanks

Yeah. You sell high, but then you have to buy high as well.

That's why I'm ordering a 2022 rather than buying a 2021 on the lot or a 1-3 year old used one. I can wait and the price winds up being about the same.

It's not just the computer ships in short supply, it's also materials like rubber, foam (for seat cushions), etc. Crazy world right now.

I am wrong about this, but I personally don't want vehicles with all the bells and whistles. I don't want navigation, I don't need dual zone climate control, I don't want or need an "infotainment" system. I think the value on 2000-2015 ish vehicles is improving because for many models of cars it marks the last generation of vehicles that were/ are not basically moving computers. My tacoma, is in my mind a perfect vehicle for what it was sold as, and what it can be modified to do. It is my go to explore anything vehicle. I bought it new off the lot in 2013 for 31k. It has all the good stuff, regear, front and rear lockers, long travel ifs, carbon widebody, 6 piston wilwoods, and 12 inch shocks in the rear, on 33s. And on top of all that it is a manual. I have a packet of document of about 2 inchs thick of every single part that has gone in the truck and documented ever time, I have changed any fluids, spark plugs, bearings etc. The clutch just got changed so she is good for another 100,000 miles with some minor repairs along the way. At any point in time I believe that despite my trucks dents and broken/stripped screws my truck would fetch well over 30k if I sold it. Lockers and long travel alone is 8 grand in parts. And alot of stuff on the truck had to be welded and modified, it is "kustom". Someone one somewhere looks at my truck like a gem, and that person is me. Because I am driving it into the ground, as the 1gr-fe is rated for a solid 300k from the factory if properly looked after. My truck realistically the way I drive it has another 20 years of life left in it.

This isn't anything new and it's not going to die down in a couple months either. Tacoma prices (at least in many markets) have been sky high for at least a couple of years. Sure, it's gotten worse recently with used car values as a whole going up. But, Tacomas in particular have been climbing in value for years now.

Prices surely will stabilize and likely drop a little when the shortages are resolved but I don't see the bottom falling out of this market until the overlanding trend dies out in favor of whatever the next big trend is. Gonna be a LOT of cheap RTT's and Prinsu racks when that happens.

I agree it’s gonna be a while and prices may not come down at all- unless there is a huge influx of inventory at one time. I’m so glad I bought my new 4Runner this past January for like 38k (sr5 premium). No way I’d pay the premium now for it. This may help sales of the redesign frontier if those prices stay normal. Either way I’m never getting rid of my 13’ 2.7 2wd

My 2016 Tacoma was an extra vehicle. So, I sold it for more than I paid for it 5 years ago. The market is nuts right now. If I miss my pickup, I'll buy another when everything settles down.

If you own a truck you're sitting on money right now. It was a fleeting though for me but no way I'm getting rid of mine.
