Within the last month I've been suffering from my truck not fully engaging into reverse. Better put; the gear works but there is no "beeep" to indicate the gear has engaged and my backup lights do not turn on.

This happens 19/20 times I engage reverse.

I'm driving a 2007 V6 with the 6 speed standard transmission. I also have a broken driver side tail light lens.

    Any ideas guys?

Sounds like the shifter is not making contact with the sensor that turns on the beep and the backup lights.

I'm thinking about getting the TRD short throw shifter, if I install this can I check the sensor with a test light or something?

    You need a continuity tester.

This is the case, with the 6 speed reverse is located to the left and up in relation to first gear. I believe this is common on European cars like VW but I really have no idea.

I have a continuity tester and will be pulling my truck into the garage once my buddy gets his '06 powerstroke out

I did this and updating this old thread since it’s the first on google. Both reverse lights and reverse beep not working. Started working after, now I just have to switch my old bulbs back in after thinking the new ones were bad.

You’ll need a 27 mm wrench. And unplug the cable underneath on the right side of the tranny.
