Though I haven't put it in yet I bought what is essentially a clone of the pop n lock power tailgate lock... it was only $65... I think I had a coupon or ode that made it a little cheaper...

is there any down side to the pop n lock over the OEM Toyota one??

OEM is plug and play no splicing of wires. Comes with heat shield and a new grommet installed for under the passenger seat. Also has new double wire loom locks for the tail gate to replace the single that is there for the camera wire loom.

damn I might need to get that. I'm $8k deep into modifications and I still have no irreversible mods yet. I've been tempted to get that pop and lock thing but I didn't want to splice into the oem wireharness for the passenger door lock. thanks

I know KTJO is frowned upon here, but I’ve never had any issues with them. I used her tailgate power lock years ago and she included a wire harness that was plug and play. I believe she sells just the harness, but I can’t post a link because she’s a banned member. I’d google search it since you already have everything else.

It's worth the extra cash in my opinion. I, like you, have done nothing that can't be undone and put back to stock.
Edit: here is a link to a thread about the OEM lock. Post #13 has the installation instructions.

It’s easy and well-made (as expected). I chose OEM and glad I paid the few extra bucks.

Both are poor torture devices due to the length of the Tacoma's bed. You can't get a good stretch on anyone's spine.

The pulleys and ground tackle alone to effectively use your winch makes this cost prohibitive.

Anyone have thoughts and/or opinions on the APS Truck Armor Side Steps? I know that I don't need rock sliders and these look like they will have the function and style I want for my truck. Just curious if anyone has had issues with them? Screenshot_20210701-094953_Google.jpg

    Oh man…
Depends on what you want it for. I chose a rack because of its ability to do more than just bars.

The 5’ beds on these are pretty useless so I opted for a Leitner bed rack that’s pretty close to the same height as my Prinsu cab rack. I also wanted to be able to walk under my RTT when it’s folded out and eventually get an annex and not have to hunch inside of it. I’m REALLY glad I went with a full height rack. It also leaves me with plenty of room underneath even with the decked system in the bed. It’s actually a lot easier to reach everything in the bed now.

I also wanted to be able to carry ladders, lumber, anything longer than 8’. I’ve carried some big loads up top so far and it worked out great. I also wanted a rack that has the ability to put tie down points anywhere I wanted. Look at the static and dynamic load ratings if you choose to go with a rack. It matters…

If all you want is just a mounting solution for a RTT now and then, I’d probably go with bars. I’d still go full height on them though, you’ll appreciate being able to walk underneath when it’s set up. If you want something that will make the truck more usable, go with a full rack. Hope that helps. Some pictures to help with the decision also:

8k deep in mods? Are you planning on leaving any of them behind on the truck? This one seems like one that gets installed and then sold with the truck. Also, are you planning on selling the truck?

@Benny blanco I still have all the oem parts so if I need to go back to stock I’ll be able to do so. I’m not planning on selling the truck anytime soon. If I do sell it, I’ll put all the stock parts back on and make the mods optional to buyers or part out
