A combo of things lead to their early departure: desert heat, being allergic to bees, affects from drinking a tall cup of a date shake… and someone nearby snoring like a freight train. :sorry:

Ahh, gotcha. Figured you were saying it leaving didn't wake you but since a Landcruiser was featured prominently wanted to give a little good natured ribbing.

You win the internet for today! Beautiful shot.

Imagine my surprise to scroll for your location and see AB. Had never heard of Canoe Mountain, but I guess I know where my next set of holidays will take me.

A great few nights out in the Nordegg, Alberta area. Used Fish Lake campground as my home base while pup and I explored around for future random camping spots. Too much sun though (specifically on my shoulders…).

The *feel* is going to be too subjective due to personal preference/comfort, terrain experiences (hauling up the rockies will be waaay different than up the coast) and suspension prep/upgrades. Go to a dealer/seller and ask to hook one up and tow it around.

IF you're considering buying new I'd highly recommend you check out Escape or Casita. The 'boat hull' fiberglass construction is more forgiving than the Airstream. Airstreams are awesome and I really like the interior fit and finish but I'm a big Casita fan personally.

I like the fiberglass ones as well. Especially the Casitas. I just visited the website and I didn't realize the dry weight was so light. The motivation to buy a trailer is largely for the spouse. I generally get up and go mountain biking for a few hours. She wakes up a bit later and her and the dog chill out in the RTT waiting for my return. Having a base with a kitchen and other comforts would result in longer and more frequent mountain bike excursions for me. She loves the interior of the Airstream. However, she also has a great respect for $ and at half the price, she'd certainly consider the Casita option. I'll show her one and see if she likes it. I hope to start looking to buy this coming winter expecting that perhaps there will a decent selection. We'll see how that shakes out.

Excellent and your better half (if like mine) will greatly appreciate all the creature comforts of running water, a working toilet, heat/AC and a comfortable bed (we leave the back dinette as a bed all the time and upgraded the mattress.) The thing pulls effortlessly and hooking up and running takes me 5 minutes. Once home I park it and forget it until the next time I hook it up and go. These trailers we're discussing (airstream, casita, escape and oliver) are on a whole different superior level as far as ease of maintenance and retaining their value compared to aluminum welded frame with sandwiched fiberglass panels.

The Casita company may be able to put you in contact with an owner that'll show you theirs. Casita used to pay owners $100 if someone bought a trailer after showing.. unsure if they still do that. The company doesn't spend money on marketing because they don't have to... the trailers sell themselves. They've changed only slightly in 25 years and there's still 4+ month waiting lists last time I checked (probably higher with this Covid BS.)

If you're looking for used you're probably going to have to perform frequent searches and act very quickly. There isn't really a down season for these trailers. If you're planning on keeping for 5+ years then just order a new one from the factory in Rice TX.

You, your spouse and your bank account won't regret it. As far as waiting until winter... I'm unsure if you're referencing post-covid shortages, winter weather or perhaps an economic downturn.. none of those things will flood the market with deals on these items.

Be sure to post pictures on one of the camper threads once you have your new condo-on-wheels!

It’s an ARE contractor canopy that I’ve modified by adding windows, marine hatch, carpet and insulation.

    Stunning pics. Please share more.

I had asked about what you spent on the ARE shell and additions but found one of your earlier posts in this thread on the topic. thx

I've been looking at the Casitas line. Others in my family have huge 5th wheels and constantly complain about storing them. Not to mention the cost of the trucks needed to tow them and fuel costs. My wife has one demand. A dry bathroom. I tend to agree. Some small trailers have wet bathrooms that save space/weight, but seriously needing to dry down the toilet before using it is just plain stupid.

I've got a question. How do they handle the cold?

I hear you on the dry bath.. it's a luxury. I'd recommend keeping the wife happy.

It's not an issue for us. We put down a bathmat on the floor and don't use the shower very frequently (we have the outdoor shower option and a shower tent.) That also helps from filling up the grey tank when in campgrounds on the east coast as they'll have a fit if you dump grey water on the ground.

The propane stove keeps the trailer super cozy (two 20 lb bottles lasts a looong time when your dealing with small footage and a tiny 5 gallon water heater.) I'm pretty sure the 16,000 btu heater would drive you out if you turned the thermostat all the way up. The walls are lined with carpeting which helps insulate them.. plus you're not heating a very big space. I've used the camper in temps down to 12* without adding anti-freeze to the tanks (keep in mind that I was running the heater inside so the grey and black water tanks underneath benefit from ambient heat.) Any colder and you'd want to start adding anti-freeze to your tanks. Google Casita trips to Alaska.. these are very popular for dragging up thru Canada.

I've added a 6" bed extension so the bed is now 54" wide. 46" width didn't work for me and the Ms together. For the bed width reason I investigated airstreams.. but to get a wider bed I would've had to move up larger than 20'.. more than I want to drag around (and pay for).

These things are tiny though.. it's part of the small and light design. I'm a thrifty guy too.. so I like buying/using then selling these campers without taking a depreciation hit. One of the same reasons I like the Tacoma.

It’s made by a company called Adventure trailers in Prescott Arizona and it’s called the Tacoma habitat. Sleeps up to 4 people and is a very robust product. Weight 300 pounds.
