Largest tire on a 2020 pro

First thing I did after putting 265's on my TRD Offroad was put a Bilstein 5100 lift on so that it wouldn't rub anymore when I went flexed it out. Then when I got my Pro the first thing I did was swap the tires with my other rig. No lift no rub. But now I want 285's on the Pro (waiting on the springs) and put the 265's back on the Tan Taco

You do realize that 265 only denotes the tire's width, right? You can get 265 tires in various diameters.

 

Alignment for sure! I did the UCA and it made a world of difference.

Maybe just the UCA alone would have worked without the lift on the Offroad? Could have went that route first, but 5100 was pretty good bang for the buck at the time.

 

I suppose I should assume that when 265 is said, it must mean some other tire designation than the near ubiquitous 265/75 or 265/70 if you have a 17" wheel. And yes, I understand plenty about how a metric tire size works.

 

In all seriousness a good alignment can be the difference between rubbing and not. Go to a shop that knows how to do an alignment for tire clearance on a Tacoma, it's a thing and it works.

 

285/75/16s. Numerous threads with other pro owners running that size. I have em on my pro and love em. They fit on the stock set up and no running.

 

Do you think the generic shops like American tires can do the job?

Will be mounting in August over here in SoCal but need a good alignment since my wheels/tires is pushing it.

 

It's hit or miss. I have a local shop that is a big brand and "will only go to factory specs", but got lucky with who I talked to. I also researched what to ask for, and when I started asking he knew I had a Tacoma and what I was looking for. Max out caster, I was about 4*.

Oh, I also have upper adjustable control arms, I think those allow for the caster to be adjusted so much.

 

I've had similarly mixed results. My local Toyota dealer was actually amenable to using my specs. I found that to be interesting.

 

No. Lift has nothing to do with tire clearance. The minute the suspension compresses you are still gonna rub on the same spot. Unless you intend on never having your suspension compress ever . Common rookie misunderstanding.

 

The wheel offset will affect tire clearance but again “Lift” (Or where the vehicle sits at ride height in its total wheel travel) has nothing to do with tire clearance. Nice try tho.

 

Even my 265/75r16 rub slightly on the mud flap / inner fenders. With more positive caster ,Alignment (pushing the lower arm forward) it might clear. I recommend you mash through some woops while turning you’ll find out really quickly what rubs.

 

The Tan one had all sorts of rubbing issues with the 265's before the UCA upgrade and lift. The issue is with the stock setup you run out of caster and run into some messed up positive camber situation on the passenger side. I have run the Pro pretty hard through Moab and the Mojave Road on these tires. No rubbing at all even on the front flaps. I'm sure I will run into issues when going to 285's. Not sure maxing out the Caster will fix it. Everything I read points to another inch up front, but if I can get away with just another UAC I will go that route. Would rather keep it at stock height.

 

I put a really large tire on a trd pro. Man in red suit for scale. Hope this helps.

 

I’m running 265/75/16 on my off- road with no problems. Thought since the pro has the one inch lift ,maybe a larger tire would fit. Gonna stick with the 265/75/16 for the pro. Thanks to all! Well most! Lol
