Hofmann, thank you for taking the time (what now seems like quite a while ago) to give your input... I know the difference is minimal, however, I was hoping someone with a certain level of sensitivity to driving feel and traction limits could pitch in, so I appreciate it.

I ended up going with the TerrainContact's in 265/70, and although I was already leaning towards the 70 a/r, your input positively influenced the decision as in part, the aesthetic of a 75 a/r was not justified with the slight 'softness' imparted by the higher a/r.

It's funny you mention driving your truck like a jackass because that's how I drive it most of the time... To me, the 3rd Gen. Tacoma (mine being a TRD Off-Road 4x4 6-speed MT) with its tight cabin, sport-like seat-to-footwell leg ergonomic, relatively solid chassis & suspension set-up, along with the 6-speed MT and VVT of the 2GR-FKS always make me want to drive the thing like its a sports car... and it always feels quite good (minus the shite oem brakes, which have been replaced with 319mm StopTech Cryo-Slotted rotors, and TRD Sport Pads; excellent combination).

For those interested in the TerrainContacts, I must say that these tires have exceptional dry tarmac grip for an all-terrain (they in fact outperform some all-season performance tires), and their ride quality, dynamics & NHV are very good. I have yet to try them on wet tarmac, and off-road.

Comparatively, the OEM Kevlar's have substantially poor dry tarmac limits of grip, so I am not surprised that both you and I have experienced improvement, irrespective of a/r.

    Cheers mate.

Didn't really think about them too much, thought they may be too skinny? Would they be lighter?

I'll definitely consider the pizza cutters next time I'm shopping for tires

    Edit :

wow the ST Maxx have been discontinued. Replaced by the rugged trek I believe. I hope they are as good as my Maxxies

Not the sexiest pictures, but I went with Toyos.

Also recently had the KDMAX tune and that thing is worth every penny.

A little unorthodox around here. Wanted something more aggressive than the stock wranglers, but nothing crazy. Last trip the guy with the stock wranglers mentioned getting loose a few times. I stayed gripped up. I'd say mission accomplished.

Got my 5100s...truck measures and sits level with fronts set to 1.55. Pic is a little deceiving due to angle and slight grade of driveway to the road.

My new Toyo Open Country AT3 in the SL 265/75r16 which are 41lbs each .. didn't want to go any heavier since i just have the 2.7 4-cyl .. if you get these tires, the sidewall pattern is a little different on each side so look and decide which side you like best before installing

This is my 2021 SR5 with a bone stock suspension and a set of 265/75/16 Wildpeaks put on and today took off the air dam (photo is a few days old). That will be about the extent of my 'mods' for the foreseeable future.
They've been quiet, ride just fine and have handled the last 7 days of rain pretty well. Also no rubbing on my mud flaps - I live out here in Bumfuk Kansas where it's several miles of gravel, mud, drifting snow and whatever to even see blacktop - they seem to do just fine.Red SR5##.jpg

Thanks - my first new Toyota pickup in 1984 was red and my last (most likely) Toyota pickup, this one, just had to be red too...;)
