Does anyone know what is going on/causing this with my tires?

These are about a month old now. These are 285/70's. Before I bought these I was on 265's and everyone once in a while a similar line would appear. I honestly have no idea what its from. My guess is it looks like the thread is completely coming in contact with the ground? Would the fact that these wheels are 7's and 285's are recommended for that size?
    Any help is appreciated.

Do you drive over a cattle guard or a pop up barrier?

Have you done a chalk test?
What tire pressure are you running?

If you’re talking about the slightly darker line on the outside lugs then I think it’s where you are getting lateral forces. This would be where it’s wearing more. I think you have a toe in issue for that size tire. I’d get a cheap alignment to save expensive tires.

I think it's just the opposite. Wide tire (11-ish inches), narrow rim (7.5 inches), possibly even overinflated for that combo. The outsides are not getting as much contact as the center which means they're not going to wear all that well. It's on all 4 tires.

So when I got them put on the shop inflated them to 40psi and I noticed the line right away. I dropped the psi down to 32 at first and then 29 like the door sticker says. The line never went away with either psi.

I don't really want to go lower than 25psi...any thoughts?

Your tires are balloning so to speak due to the 7 inch rim. Really need an 8” rim, that is what is recommended. Tire pressure should be 30 psi dblc and e tire

For a 285 tire, you should use at least a 7 1/2 inch rim. An 8 inch would be better!

I had a feeling that was going to be the problem, I just wanted to confirm it.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'm going to be buying some new wheels this week...

Something that I just thought about, would improper alignment have anything to do with this? Its been a few years since the last alignment but the truck drives straight. Just thought I would ask.

Improper alignment definitely could be a factor. Alignment, proper wheel width, proper inflation based on chalk test - all of these things work together (or against each other if done wrong). You already have confirmation that your wheel width is wrong for those tires so I'd start there and then do an alignment afterwards so you don't prematurely wear out the tires or your other suspension parts.

So I got the truck aligned and got the new Method wheels installed. The methods are 17x8.5 and after driving for a few days and getting the cold PSI down to 26, I'm still not getting proper contact on the ground.

Lines are still there, granted not as bad, but they are still there...

There is another Tacoma that has the same size tires that parks on the other side of the street from my work and I walked by it yesterday and I noticed that all 4 tires have the same lines. So I looked at my dads F250, which he has Wildpeaks in 285/75-16 and his tires have the same lines as well.

    So my next question is:

Do Wildpeaks just have a weird contact patch? Does anyone else with Wildpeaks have this issue? I get the feeling that I won't be able to fix this.

you should never run 26psi cold. Just drive the truck and monitor how the tires wear. You are overthinking it way to much.
