This is where the overthinking brain drops off and resigns to faith.

Well I don't know anything about the missing fossil records maybe Enron shredded them..lol I have no idea, but, I do believe in the earth existing for billions of years and things evolving to where we are today. Maybe something or someone kicked it off but I doubt anyone will ever find out exactly. I just disagree with all the hardcore Catholics that say that god created everything some 5-6000 years ago.

As for your son, good for him, its a great and rewarding career, my Dad was one as well as my uncle and cousin. I've been a Firefighter for almost 5 years and I wouldn't want to do anything else!!

Very true. Faith can just as easily be used to elimante god from the equation and say, "The Universe is always"

And the Universe created the Heavens and the Earth.

    Period.

Yes that's also why he put so many contradictions in the Bible. He does not want us to believe using logic, reason and knowledge. He wants us to believe based on faith.

This is a variant of the reason the Earth appears so old, when it's really only 6000 years old is that god took stuff from other, older planets to confuse scientists.

These kinds of arguments, if seriously intended, demonstrate the hopeless intellectual dishonesty required to be a true believer.

BTW, if you want to see contradictions in the Bible, you don't have to wait long. I've already pointed out a problem with he creation myth in Chapter 1 of Genesis, but in chapter 2 it gets worse:

Genesis 1:11 records God creating vegetation on the third day. Genesis 2:5 states that prior to the creation of man on day six “no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground.”

There is no missing record. You are merely repeating something you heard, but don't understand. Scientists have long marveled at what they sometimes call the 'Cambrian explosion,' the RELATIVELY sudden appearance of many fossils in the Cambrian era. If you went to Wikipedia or a good library you could answer the question yourself.

And you understand the big bang? Do you have any proof or is it just a theory you accept by faith because of other "facts" you accept by faith. It's faith both ways......I can't prove God is anymore than you can prove the big bang is factual. You choose to believe in what other men have said and others choose to believe what the Bible says. Neither can be "proven" they are accepted by faith alone.

True, you can't prove either. But a scientific "theory" is an explaination of events that is supported by observable phenomina. That is, there are observations that support the theory of the big bang. There is no observable phenomina that supports the bible's story. I'll put my faith in the Big Bang until another theory that has more supporting evidence presents itself.

FWIW a random un explained explosion sounds more far-fetched than some one actually creating.

but the great thing about america is you are entitled to your opinion.

What type of observable phenomena would you look for if the earth were created by God? Believe me dude, there is a lot I can't explain but that works equally on both sides of this debate.

Oh yes there is-how about the millions and millions of souls the world over who believe in God and the Big Book?? Isn't that quite the phenomenom! Observable too:)

    A. I don't understand the 'big bang.'
    B. The 'big bang' is just a theory, and a theory that does not have nearly the widespread acceptance among scientists that evolution does.
Therefore, C. I do not accept the 'big bang' on faith.

Astrophysicists are divided on whether the universe came in to being from nothing or whether it has always existed. I favor the latter.

Regarding the Bible, I have studied it, carefully. It is not worthy of anyone claiming it was written by god. It is simply too human, has too many errors and contradictions. If the notion that the Bible was directly inspired by or written by 'God' were a theory it would be rejected by more than 99% of credible scientists.

And I can prove that last statement.

"By one count there are some 700 scientists with respectable academic credentials (out of a total of 480,000 U.S. earth and life scientists) who give credence to creation-science, the general theory that complex life forms did not evolve but appeared 'abruptly'."

    That's less than .15 of 1 percent.

You are basically arguing that since no one has absolute knowledge [and I agree no one does] that EVERYTHING is based on faith.

That is discounting the idea of probability.

I agree that it is possible that the god of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian New Testament exists, I just think it is unlikely. I also agree that it is possible that we have the theories of gravity and evolution wrong, but I think it is highly unlikely.

It is disingenuous to claim that since everything is ultimately based on faith, we cannot distinguish levels of probability or certainty.
