If I’d been a TW reader before I bought my 2018, I probably would have run far way from Toyota and waited for the Ford Ranger. It took a couple of years to get everything the way I want it (sig says it all) and it’s not even in the prime of it’s life yet. Plenty of daily driving and summer towing left in it. In fact, I might get to the end of my road before this truck. :D

    Happy 4th guys & gals.

Toyota was still beta testing in 2017.

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
I'll never understand this. If you're in a position, financially, to own a 3rd Gen, you're probably in a position where you can also trade it in and get what you want - if you don't want it.

Not to mention, like others have said, you can literally get what you paid for it brand new right about now. If it's worth complaining about publicly, it should be worth changing, right?

Anyway, back to enjoying my substantial financial investment and daily commitment.

Right now is a phenomenal time to trade or sell your truck if you don't like it.

And if Tacoma was "too Japanese" some would complain then...you don't like it get something else. Toyota like all other manufacturers do market research and take input from people choosen to be part of a survey.
No manufacturer is ever going to please everyone...but the sales number do show that the vast majority are happy with their purchase...and yes that includes me too!

The rest of the world/satisfied customer’s general consensus on the Toyota Tacoma: Great design. World’s best selling mid sized truck.

Meanwhile over on the Tacomaworld threads: World’s biggest piece of shit. I shoulda bought a Ridgeline. These cup holders suck. How can anybody buy this thing…

They say, after they've already bought it when they had years to see what the competition had to offer and make up their minds

I'm waiting for Toyota to build an all new Truck. Compact body on frame 4WD, Toyota can offer a 2wd if they want. Single cab, don't care if it's not a available with a manual transmission. Don't care if it has a manual transfer case. Althought those two features would be nice. Toyota could put a 1.3 liter turbo 3cyl if they want. Just build the damn thing.

To be fair, vehicle forums tend to have that affect no matter what vehicle it is.

Toyota knows what is best for and it's not a big bubba mug full of a gallon of Dr. Pepper

Absolutely. Soda is so bad for you and Toyota knows that. That's why I only drink diet

This is what Toyota used to size the cup holders.

sounds like you got a good one OP! :). None of those things bother me in the least though I never owned a 1st gen. I still love my truck though it's been in the shop more than any vehicle I've owned combined. Count yourself lucky you haven't had this list:

    -Failed CKP sensor causing stalling
-Replaced rear differential, THEN replaced the gasket on the pumpkin that was leaking 2x
    -warped rear drum from factory
-2 ECU updates to fix nuts shifting logic and stuttering
-high pressure fuel pump replaced b/c it squealed like a tortured pig at idle
-engine pulled entirely to reseal the timing cover that was leaking
    -low ATF from the factory
    -misaligned bumper and bed
    -leaking 3rd brake light

And some other stuff I'm probably forgetting! I'm hoping I'm out of the woods now, but otherwise it's never left me all out stranded and I've been able to use either my factory warranty (with some argument) or my extended warranty for what has amounted to easily $10-12k in repairs by Toyota dealerships. Toyota definitely lost their margin on my truck....

I had a 2013, it was a fantastic truck. I have a 2016, it's a fantastic truck. Did my 2013 have flaws, yes. Does my 2016 have flaws, yes.
