Something is not right about this. It would seem the powder coater got much hotter than claimed. To distort that area of the rim that much would take torque much higher than specified and a seriously compromised piece of aluminum. That just does not compute. And BTW, I've got 40 years of metal machining, heat treating and and precision assembly behind me. This is just not adding up.

I'd be asking your powder coater for temperature calibration certification for his oven. I keep coming back to that picture, that's gross deformity that I'm not sure I could recreate without out putting that wheel on studs with a bolt circle less than the OEM spec.

Why is one lug hole not affected and the rest are? Something smells rotten here.

Wait! I think I see the problem; in that picture the black lug is not machined properly. Unless the picture is distorting things. It looks like the lug seat is very unequal in angle, it does not look concentric. Can you take a picture of the black lugs against a white background from several angles? Actually, take a picture of all the lug nuts please.

If my suspicion is correct, it would explain your damaged rims. Even then I'm surprised that factory torque could cause that much distortion.

I will try and take a better photo. The shop that supplied these because my stock were not the correct size only gave me one of them to try and show the shop that sold them to me it was the wheel and that they were using the correct lug.

Wouldn’t the wheel stud have snapped before enough torque could be applied to cause that deformity on that wheel? How much heat is too much for wheels?

I’m following this now for more info

The tire shop says they only used 80-85 ft lbs torque…the powder coating guy says his oven only goes 400degrees max. Powder coated around 380 he said. Cast aluminum really needs about 600 degrees or more to start causing any damage to the annealing of the wheel. Especially to this magnitude. I really cannot say who’s fault this is except my own for risking powder coating :(

On the upside, I’ve got a new set from a friend and they are Worth it!! I’m in love haha

If you do be sure to opt for the master cylinder upgrade, much better/firmer pedal feel. I went all in and got the parking brake upgrade as well. The 340mm rotors provides just enough clearance for the 17" Advans, wouldn't go any bigger as I can barely squeeze a finger between the highest point of the caliper and wheel.

Awesome man, thanks for the advice, I've heard of upgrading the master cylinder. Do you have a p/n for the master cylinder, I'm assuming it's replaced using an OEM unit?

Where did you get your kit from?

    Thanks

Don't have a part # for the master cylinder but I believe it may be the one from the Tundra however I'm not 100% sure on that. Just select "my Tacoma has a standard master cylinder that needs to be upgraded" in the options ONLY if you do not already have the upgraded one that has the electronic booster. I called my dealer and give them my VIN to make sure my truck came with the standard one first before I ordered the upgrade.

Looks great! Are those the stoptech rear brake drum rotor swap with the SOS performance kit? I just ordered this kit. Curious to know your thoughts on the Parking brake function

Yes they are the SOS ones but it's not just a rotor swap it converts the drum to disc brake, I linked in the post before yours. Parking brake upgrade was worth it IMO, stronger/stiffer feel and more clicks when pulling the lever.

Yup. I ordered the full front rotors, 6 piston trophy calipers, rear rotors, 4 piston rear trophy calipers, parking brake provision, and upgraded master cylinder. Stoptech sent the wrong front calipers so getting that addressed. My truck is 6 speed manual so I’m glad to hear the parking brake actually works.

Has anyone figured out a way to put a center cap on the Advan RGD-2? My dealer keeps saying "they are in development" but that's been the case for about 2 years now... Looking for alternative options.

I had my advans installed about 3 weeks ago. I was excited until I saw that the installer chipped every single wheel when they were balancing them and there were a couple of gouges down to the metal from the retards using an impact gun. I made a complaint and they agreed to get me a replacement set.

It seems petty and the wheels will eventually get chips, but the chips should be caused by me and not some sloppy wrench monkey.

I had the same experience with discount but they replaced the wheel they messed up. It happens and it's a tight fit with the lugs even with a thin wall socket and that these wheels aren't hub centric so unless you have hub rings it's difficult to suck the wheel down perfectly.
