Just got back from a week of camping, and there was one particularly rough road (that looking back I should have aired down).

Got home and noticed there seems to be a string coming from my sidewall? Should I be concerned? Never had this happen before….

It looks like the sidewall was cut, but not all the way through. I'd definitely get it replaced. Might hold up for a little while, but personally my safety and time is worth more than the cost of one tire.

Yeah, that’s what I’m leaning towards. I was an idiot and didn’t buy the certificates from discount tire. Because “man when would I ever need those??!!”

Not a string. Its part of the steel belt coming through the sidewall. The belt is damage and so is the sidewall.

    New tire is the fix.

Don’t play with sidewall damage. If you have a tire shop you trust, let them look and advise.

While I doubt failure is imminent, I would put that tire on the rear if it isn't already. If that thing decides to let go, it'll be quick.

Just for future reference, that is not steel belt coming through that puncture, it is what ever synthetic-cloth reinforcement that particular tire uses in it's construction. Steel fibers look much different than your failure/

I went to discount tire today, they ended up saying it wasn’t the sidewall rupturing. One tech said “oh yeah it’s just the stuff for the white lettering in the sidewall coming through”. The other said “it looks like you hit some road kill and the fur got stuck”. To be honest, it didn’t feel like metal or nylon. But I don’t think it was fur.

That’s what I’m saying. I definitely didn’t hit anything (unless it was sitting inside the ruts at Mills Peak). I always avoid hitting anything, whether dead or alive. But the guys at discount tire seemed confident I could still drive on it.
