I drove an XJ on 35's for years with one of the studs snapped (so just 4 of them). Never had an issue.

I had an old car once when I was living hand to mouth, went to change my oil but it was red when it splashed out into the pan. Yes, it was my trans fluid. I had several quarts of oil ready but no trans fluid. Auto parts store was about six blocks away, so rode my bicycle up there. All that was bad enough, but when I checked out, the smart-ass at the register could see my bike out the door and he nodded towards the door and said he hoped my trans shifted smoother. That may well be the last time I worked on a car myself. Oh the embarrassment - the trauma.

You have to break some bolts to get a feel for them . If you don't break any you aren't doing anything , live and learn .

Went to advanced auto. Got the parts today instead. The stud installer/seeder tools diameter was too big and caught the inner metal edge of the hub. Useless.

Gonna try using the actual brake rotor to seed the stud in with the lugs…. If that makes sense. Otherwise, gotta go get some washers tommorow to stack and use instead.

wonder what the shops use to seed in the stud. The damn tool I got the diameter was a tad too large.

Have you considered just buying a new truck? I traded in a truck once to get a new one because I didn't want to run my current truck through a car wash.

The stud installation tool comes in different sizes.
Often times we just use a large nut like you plan on using the washers.

My one experience breaking a wheel stud was not in overtightening it, but in removing one that had been overtightened. Too many garages use their air wrenches to jam those lug nuts on, without caring whether they can be removed. If you need a breaker bar to remove a lug nut, it's been done wrong. Imagine having a flat on the road, and not being able to remove the wheel.

(Thankfully this was not with my new Tacoma.)
