I like that they have zerks, lack of reviews doesn't help me though.

Called my local oriellies, finally figured out that anything I want them to order in just costs double. They have new Bosch rotors in house, only 99$ each! 50 on Amazon. Still pricey but man. That's a thing.

 

So it looks like those I linked above suck. I was trying to find the moogs with zerks, Amazon has one side but not the other, saying they are months out on getting more. Finally found a matching pair on newegg of all places. Go figure, 25$ per side but hey I got em.

Did you get them recently? I was looking down the most recent reviews on Amazon and they were all complaining about build quality.

 

Ive had them ony truck for maybe 3 to 4 months since I rebuilt my front end.

 

I do hope you got good ones! I ended up getting the moogs from newegg. Same price, practically the same thing. Just odd from there, I usually just buy computer parts from them!

 

The no anti sway bar experiment is interesting. The truck does dive a little if I turn sharply, but not a lot. I still might replace it, interested to see how it performs with better bushings and the drop kit.

So I went to my local oriellies to pick up a few things, including some MAF sensor cleaner. And ahhhh... hey you guys know where to get any? Because oh boy. I guess there's some crazy nationwide shortage at the moment.

 

I realize I'm talking to myself a bit in here, but that's for the benefit of some other poor soul down the road.

So on the CRC maf sensor cleaner. I just found some at walmart, comes in a double kit of little cans, packaged with throttle body cleaner. I got the last one in the display, which was up high and knocked over so you couldn't see it - might have been why it was still there.

I thought it was just another covid based supply chain issue thing, but apparently (and by that I mean someone told me) the CRC factory burned down. Oops. I don't know that anyone competes with them on this product!

But there is another option if you can't get any locally - Amazon is out of the regular cans, but there is a kit that a can is included with:

Been driving without the anti sway bar for a bit, eh. It's loose on turns. I have new moog linkages ready to go on it, as well as a drop kit and new energy suspension bushings. I'm going to add those on when I do my brakes, which may be real soon as I just got my other rotor in! All bosch quietcast, rotors and pads.

Remaining tasks before I am happy with the truck:

Bleed brakes
See if I can tighten up center bushing on steering rack
Replace cam exhaust timing chain gears
Replace ECGS bushing
Figure out my oddball airbag light issue.
Spot check/re torque any suspension bolts.

So my good old buddy @acupunk said he thought he felt the needle bearing thing when he drove my truck. I crawled underneath and grabbed the axle near the diff to give it a little wiggle test and OH MY GOD

So I'm calling ecgs to order that up immediately.

 

I somehow forgot the stuff on the list for today, which was - new brakes and rotors, and new anti sway bar links bushings and drop kit. Ooh after all that it really feels nice. A majority of the slop in my steering is tightened up now, makes sense.

Urd sells a kit to replace the fuel pump and add an external replaceable filter. I bought it, it’s laying somewhere waiting for me to put it in.

After reading your to do list, and realizing I bought that kit November 2019, I’m feeling pretty lazy.

 

I just wondered if there was an actual under the hood inline fuel filter. I forgot they don't really do those anymore.

So I have in hand my new ECGS bushing, took my harbor freight deathtrap jackstands back and picked up some 6 ton replacements from napa, scoured 4 stored and finally got a 35mm socket from napa for the axle nut. I am good to go on bushing replacement tomorrow! And it is clunking around like crazy, I'm a bit embarrassed for not noticing that earlier and letting it get that bad. I thought it was my worn out anti sway linkages.

Since it's babys first axle removal job, I'll post up some pics and maybe trip over some new guy insights as I do the job.

 

Nowadays when it comes to manufacturing pretty much everything, there’s these guys whose job it to say do this to make it good. The other guys job is to say do this to make it cost us less. The second group always wins. Why spend 15c on that wire when we can spend 7c and it’ll work just as good, for a little while at least.

The second group won the argument on the fuel filter. There isn’t one, except for the fuel pump sock, which is more of a strainer than a filter.

Okay so boy was I glad I changed out the needle bearing for the ECGS bushing. The cv axle had so much play in it, afterwards - nothing. And one of the needles in the old needle bearing was trying to make a break for it! The entire cage has 1-2mm slop pushed front to back. It's a disaster.



Top is the old needle bearing, you can see the rogue needle trying to bounce right at the top. Part of the case snapped but I think that was just trying to wedge the install tool in there, used a magnet to get out all of the material so I'm not worried about that. At the bottom though, is another story. Looks like just about 2 inch or 50 mm diameter, maybe 1mm diameter thick O-ring of some sort. It is stretchy but has a metallic outer, like a guitar string almost. I found it on the ground when I was cleaning up... oh boy. Near where I had the axle hanging out when I was removing the needle bearing and tossing in the new bushing, so it either fell from the CV axle, which is odd because I thought everything was tight there - or it fits on the back of the wheel bearing somewhere. Anyone know?

 

Most of what's been said I would have just said myself anyways. But running an inline filter isn't super hard. I pretty much did the same thing on another car, but used a bigger knock off Walbro and ugh... I would have to find the PN but even that isn't a huge deal, personally I was just looking for a bosch inline that was big enough to really filter. If you want to go down the DIY path is all I'm getting at, and/or mostly they talk a lot about pumps, but that looks like a tiny generic ass filter to me. Failing to see the value for the price of it all.

 

Might as well grab some speed bleeders if you haven't got that far in the project yet.

 

Don’t take my word on this without a little research but if that fell off the axle or hub then they forgot to put one on mine because I’ve had the front end apart a few times and I’ve never seen one

 

That really is good to hear! I’m wondering if it was part of the old axle seal. I replaced that too, and I tore up the old one getting it out. Makes sense as I found that part right where I put the old seal down. It’s very much not a typical O ring. And it’s about that size as well.

 

i did all of those at 100k. Definitely worth it. You can also pull and clean your reservoirs to spruce up your engine bay appearance.

 

I’m probably not going to go that nuts! Yet. Today is my last day to work on stuff before I road trip it out, brake flush and bleed is on the list for today. I think I’m going to wait on the cam gears, I don’t want to be rushed on that job, I am excited to do it though!
