Bought this 2021 SR 4x4 from Carmax last Saturday, added new Toyo Open Country A/T III tires, and installed an Eaton TrueTrac LSD (thanks Premier West Gears!) over this past week. I was super impressed with its relatively stock capabilities, having the rather gutless 4 cylinder it just slogs up hills at its own pace with minimal fuss and often 2WD was fine. Excited to take this truck on adventures in the Western US!

Adding an ARB recovery point this upcoming week and Morimoto HID's, no crazy plans otherwise so far.

Sounds like it did just fine.
The recovery point is a good addition. Well worth it if/when needed.

Solid purchase man! Highly underrated. I bought a ‘21 SR as well, it’s the best platform to build up from.

It's actually impressive how loaded the "base" model is once they did the 2020 update, I frankly don't need more in a truck.

The 2021 SR really does come with quite a few bells and whistles. The color matched mirrors and bumpers are a plus. Knowing 3rd gens in general require regearing, the SR is a no brainer, just toss in a rear locker and you’ve saved thousands over a TRD OR.

Excellent tire choice. They love both pavement and off-road.

Is it rude to ask what you paid? I also just bought a used 21 4wd SR 4cyl utility, and I'm also in Calif (for now). I had to look everywhere and ended up going to Oregon to get it.

Edit, and my first 2 mods were an OR recovery point and ripping off the air dam. 265 Wildpeaks en route.

Did a lot of reading prior to purchasing them, very impressed so far!

DM'd on price, thought about removing the air dam but haven't had the need so far...thinking it may help with not only mpg but highway speed stability.

About 1/4 mile MPG, nothing for stability. Mine went in the recycling bin.
