I would think the toyoya people know more than an internet poster if they putting reliable engines in their trucks. My old 4.7 v8 went around the block nearly 3 times when i owned it. The new owner is still using it saying it been running good. The 3.5 v6 runs highway speeds well at even lower rpm. I have no doubts that it will be another long lasting engine.

While none of the above actually applies to a Tacoma, Found On Road Dead does apply to FORD.:D

The 4 banger guys are just mad because Ford at least put a turbo on their turd, instead the SR crowd whines about driving a truck with basically a sewage lift station engine. It's not like the HP rating was hidden.

The only reason the 4 cylinder SR exists is for Ecolab to replace urinal cakes and check dish washing chemicals.

[IMG]Recently purchased 2021 SR5 dcsb 4cylinder! Added the sr5 wheels. Absolutely love it!!! My dealer let me have an extended test drive to make sure it would make me happy. No regrets!

Because it’s a 2017. The single greatest year of Toyota pickup production ever. Will never be topped they say.

    - 90% of Tacoma sales are the V6
    - so 90% of the reported problems are with the V6
    - thus the V6 is 9X more likely to have a failure than the 4 banger.

Damn V6 has a 900% failure rate compared to 4 cyclinder. What a shit engine!

    Duh!!!!!!

If one bought the 4 cylinder I question their need for a truck.

you do realize many buy a truck for the bed...not towing, not racing, not 4 wheeling. I have no power issues with the 4cyl, use s mode most of the time. All the power I need.

Regarding reliability of the 4 cylinder, In the third gen forums I’ve seen plenty of problems listed for the V6 engine and can’t remember seeing one for the 2.7L though I’m sure there are likely a couple somewhere. Granted the V6 sales are a lot more than the I4, the 90% figure someone posted may even be a little low. Likely both engines are quite reliable but you cant hide that from the reports in this forum a number have had issues with the V6. From the third gen forum search for timing cover leak:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/search/14066057/?q=Timing+cover+leak&t=post&o=date&c[node]=186+4

    And for broken valve spring:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/search/14066039/?q=Broken+valve+spring&t=post&o=date&c[node]=186
    Yep, V6’s.
I pretty much have to go to 1st and second gen forums for trucks with hundreds of thousand miles on them to find the I4 issues

Reliability on the Ford Eco boost 4 cylinder motors is Total crap. Tons of issues with them just google it and you will see countless horror stories, Recalls and class action lawsuits... That said I like Ford but would not buy anything from them with an Ecoboom!
