    I thought the valve, valve spring and e-ring in the top of a motor was also called a valve body?

    Right, that's where the valve stems and push rods are at. I just assumed there was a name for the valve assembly.

    Valve body is used when discussing hydraulic systems. Engines have cylinder heads.

    So you have some stands to hold the head off the bench, the press side goes on the valve face and the fork side compresses the spring so you can remove the keepers.

    Hard on the hands, you had to compress the spring by squeezing the tool by hand -- and hopefully the tool didn't twist. Real engine builders have ones that operate on compressed air but poor guys like me had these. Auto parts stores used to rent things like this.

    Right. I had the unfortunate privilege of compressing the valve springs on an International DT466 cylinder head. Would have been nice to have a ratcheting one.

    He has to close the tool so the handle in his left hand is parallel with the double bars on the tool -- if the tool decides to twist :eek::censored:

    I’ve only ever removed valve collets with a rubber mallet and a socket. It’s probably different working on a motorcycle vs a Diesel engine though.
