Yes. Fight fire with fire. As an aside, I cannot believe that anyone who has lived in an HOA would defend an HOA. DO you know what kind of people run for a board or committee position in a HOA? Control freaks and people with personal vendettas. Mostly though, hateful bitches with agendas against anyone who they believe has wronged them or who they don't like. And most of these bitches don't like anyone. You don't often prevail against such power that is backed by state laws, but I did.

I had to threaten to sue my property owner's association over not approving my construction of a 40x40 metal building. We are on a golf course. That was the reason they cited. You could build one if you didn't live on the golf course, but not if you did. Compelling argument in my favor though, they had already allowed one of their own board members who lives over on the 13th fairway to build one. They quietly changed the rules so he could, without a quorum when they voted, then when it was finished they immediately changed the rules back so nobody else could. The building committee, a bunch of man-hating bitches, came to my house to see where I wanted to build it. One asked, " What are you going to do if we don't let you?" I had been anticipating a fight, and a lawsuit, and I had practiced my best The Devil and Daniel Webster closing argument, because I really didn't want to have to go to court. I wanted just to build a shop. Delivered nicely as I could, but not verbatim, except for the first sentence: "I'm going to sue you, collectively and severally, and I'm going to seat a jury of backwoods Tyler County freedom-loving Billy Green Teeth-types who will surely side with me because I am one of them and you are not, and you know there is no shortage of us in Tyler County. They'll identify with me, not you. The salt-of-the-earth backwoods people my attorney will seat have been pushed around their whole lives, they hate oppression that they can't fight like yours, but this may be their one and only time to stand up and fight back, and they will act. They will deliver a message to people like you that you don't get to tell people what they can do with property that they own, golf course notwithstanding. I will ask for punitive damages, and when I am finished either you, or this association, or both of you will have paid for the construction of my shop. AND...If you make me sue you then I'm also going to rebuild that 20x20 aluminum awning in front of the house that Hurricane Rita took out." (They had previously outlawed awnings too, a decade or so after they approved mine.) To which she replied, "You can't do that, we won't approve it." The General Manager of our property owner's association, to her credit interjected, "Well Betty, he can rebuild it if he wants to. He doesn't need a permit. Your committee already gave him a permit to build it back in 1986, and by our rules that permit is good as long as the damage was caused by windstorm, hurricane or hailstorm." Game, Set, MATCH. I got my permit three days later. I blew it wide open for anyone on the golf course to build one now, and now they even send people over here to look at mine as an example of the quality of construction that they desire to be built, because...there is a wide array of how metal buildings can be "economized" and some really cheap shit can be thrown up.

That's not the end of it: They required that I put Hardie board that they approved across the front, eight feet high. I consented, but I told the concrete guys to not put the brick ledge on the front required to support it. If the inspector caught it at concrete form inspection time then it would be easy to add. The building would look like a bastard rat with the eight feet of Hardie board, so I laid my plans of subversion to end-run them. There were four inspections by the committee's "building inspector". He approved the progression of the construction four times. He approved the concrete forms WITHOUT provision for a brick ledge (because the committee fucked up and failed to make me re-submit my proposal to include the brick ledge, they APPROVED my initial submission without it so he wasn't looking for one!) He approved the slab, AS POURED WITHOUT THE BRICK LEDGE. About six months later I get a call from the Property Manager asking when the construction would be complete as the Hardie board had not been installed. I told her we were done, our business complete, no Hardie board would be installed. I have in my possession four inspection tags that were signed and dated by the inspector approving the progression of construction, AND THE LAST APPROVING THE FINAL CONSTRUCTION. Because there was no brick ledge on which to install the Hardie board I could not install it as it would not meet Southern Building Codes that the committee holds everyone hostage with. And if they required me to install it outside the codes then others could then argue that they should rightfully be allowed to turn a blind eye to the codes too. They knew I had them by the short hairs.

    BOO-YAH BITCHES!!

And to show how STUPID they were, they were running the risk of other lawsuits too and they didn't even know that their property owner's association liability policy DID NOT CONTAIN DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS LIABILITY COVERAGE! Consequently the policy would not provide a defense for the association nor the committee. They'd have to hire their own attorneys! What a bunch of morons.

Most property owner's association officers and committeemen are well-meaning laypersons that are just in over their heads, trying to do the best they can. Some though are there to obtain gratification by making your life hell, and the association is their platform to attain Mazlow's need for personal esteem and accomplishment at the expense of others.

A good path to help an investigation is to get VIDEO of the neighbor dumping oil in the street or working on their cars.

I know dumping hazardous material is illegal and will carry some hefty fines. The fines can include clean up cost.

Most HOAs prohibit owners working cars.

Definitely, get very familiar with your HOA rules, requirements and associated penalties.

In addition to the EPA, I'd notify the Board of Health in your city/town as well. Sadly I suspect they will be useless but it's another avenue at least. Keep on it and eventually someone in one of those organizations will have to do something..even if just to get you to shut up. I'm also a big believer in the power of the media as well. "Don't hate the media..BECOME the media!"

My experience in this is limited to the senior living place my folks live in. To be rounded, my parents have always lived in houses so a condo is going to be an adjustment for them. But my dad has always said "people who get on these boards, especially senior places, have no life and just want to feel important. Hanging a sign on the exercise room "please turn off lights when finished"..nah, I doubt anyone was doing that. Someone hung a sign and feels like they're hot shit as a result".

Use private mode or a portable browser so you don't get a bunch of fucking wierd ads, made that mistake. Trying to find the logistics of getting a case of dildos, cheapest ones money can buy. Idea was to lube them up, and stick them under somones door handle.

I mean, what if you walked up to your truck, and there's just a greasy dildo jammed in each door handle?

    Fight fire with fire:

Pour motor oil on the street and rev your motor till it blows up.
    That'll show 'em.

Seriously sorry you're dealing with that.

I have no HOA which I loved until my neighbor built a 30' pirate ship in his front yard and has an obscene amount of Christmas lights from September till April.
    The pirate ship is permanent....

Long story, but someone chucked a greasy dildo at my buddy's car when we were going somewhere. Left a nasty (thing must of had veins and the works on it) greasy half smashed cock mark on his windshield. I couldn't stop laughing. Then kinda ran with the idea mentally... never actually did anything. But, none the less, one of those things where you're not really doing any damage... but highly inconveniencing someone. I would wager most people aren't just going to go grab said dildo and yank it off. Who knows where it's been.

Just found out that our HOA fines are $10/day per violation. I don't know exactly what violations they have but I could easily count 10. At $100/day or more, Im really hoping the problem will sort itself out soon.

Took 8 years but mine finally left. I actually didn't do anything to her, despite wanting to so badly. Week 1 of moving in to my house, I noticed almost everyone has dogs on my block, which I thought was great because I do was well. I notice said cunt has a dog, we share a chainlink between our backyards. So in the AM, I would let the dog out (it's like 930am maybe? Fuck call it 830 and it wouldn't matter, my point is it wouldn't be in my mind some unreasonable hour). Get out of the shower, let the dog back in. 2nd week or so in, BANG BANG BANG at my front door. Confused, because it was clearly not a polite knock knock are you home, it's a BANG BANG open the fucking door now shit. I open the door, before I could even say anything she just UNLOADS on me, and fuck my dog and I need to get it a bark collar, it's barking all the time in the morning blah blah blah. All of this... is news to me... I assumed first, maybe being a rational adult and instead of verbally assaulting me out of the gate, maybe kindly say, hey... I know you just moved in, but your dog is barking in the AM, and it's a bother to me. 2ndly, she has a fucking dog.... that barks in the morning.... along with all the other fucking dogs that start even earlier.... As the years ticked on, most of the block hated her, she would call LE over stupid shit. If I left my trash can out accidentally to the next day, or if I parked in-front of my own house for more than a few days without moving my car... (and where I live, this isn't a parking situation that you have to fight for a spot or anything), so, fuck her, fuck her dog, and I found out her husband left her, so I would say fuck him too, but now I like him. Never met the guy, but, fuck that cunt.

You really can't do much as long as the neighbor is on HIS property.

The "rules" should be spelled out in the HOA document.

The fun game with that, is getting property lines surveyed. Maybe a few times, just to be extra sure. Try a few companies even. It's not annoying at all having inspectors around your house constantly.

Perhaps a written letter to the HOA and CC each member outlining the issues and when you first noticed them..sent certified. Worst case it covers your rear end, best case gets them off their butt. I went through a similar issue with the Board of Health and a landlord long ago; sadly, the BOH didn't really do much except speak to the landlord despite the history (all documented) and the fact that they were evicting us out of retaliation. The other tenants were all sick of the same crap but kept their mouths shut. It's shitty you have to make them do their damn job, of course..but if you keep on it eventually they will have to do something.

True..but expensive. I forget what the amount I found was since my yard and my neighbor's yard don't have a clear demarcation on either side re Town Hall and there was a large tree right at the line that was rotting and had damaged my truck a while ago. Possibly it even straddled the line..but I went and got some estimates, weeded out to the one that seemed best, and talked to my neighbor. Just gave him an outline of what I'd done and made copies of everything..and said I'm not sure where the line is but he remembered my truck issue, plus his power feed is 6 feet from the tree. Before I could even ask he said "I say we split it and just get it done, how's that?" Yes sir! He liked that I told the company as soon as they arrived I wanted everything all on my side since he has a beautiful lawn and I didn't..

Yeah, I'm about to (well.... was about to, try to find fencing materials.....) put up a privacy fence at the house I will move into before I move. One of the houses next to me, is for sale and unoccupied, I don't see too much issue with them since they already have a fence up. However, the other house, has changed owners twice? and is about to for a 3rd time, and I don't think anyone (I wasn't even at first) realizes my property basically goes to their driveway. It's a goofy lot setup, looking at it you would assume "half of the yard" between both houses is mine. But, it's all mine. Since I don't know who ultimately will land there, I need to survey it just because I'm expecting some backlash at some point from someone. Not trying to be a dick, and I don't plan on even pushing my fence to where I legally could, just because it would be pretty annoying for said neighbor. Like, not be able to open your car door annoying if you park in your driveway....

Isn't dumping auto fluids an EPA violation? They might be interested. That's really why they exist.

Technically, no. Here's what you will see, and what the difference is. "A man dumping oil down a storm drain" that is an EPA violation. However, (I did have to google this, because like fuck if I would remember the code) Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 261.4 if you dump your own oil from your own use down your own drain, it's magically not hazards waste anymore somehow.

Edit: I would imagine it's some sort of.... "how things are defined / done" type scenario, because technically, drano is hazardous waste. But, that goes.... right down the drain. I'm being pretty extreme in that example, just trying to iterate the difference. Looking at the EPA, examples will always be given about storm drains, not what you flush down your toilet, or utility sink. That's legally different.

FWIW, and I assume it's a given, everyone recycle your shit like you should. Don't be an asshole and dump shit down drains even if you legally can.
