Should I trade in with current market?

This is the same line of thinking I have. I dont have to pay the state taxes either on a trade, and in the end I will have a brand new truck with 0 miles. I commute a ridiculous amount so having a truck with 0 miles again would be nice.

 

Yes but if i keep my truck I lose value on it also. Why not take a small hit while the gap is so small between a used and new and in the end have a brand new truck. The new truck will be worth significantly more than mine even when prices drop.

 

Since I'm doing the same thing, my vote will obviously be for doing the trade especially if the truck on the lot has what you're looking for.

My dealership can't keep new tacos on the lot at all. They had one DCSB OR on the lot that was pending sale, but it was also missing features that I wanted like LED Headlights/foglights/BSM, etc. Even if the market dips and my current truck value goes down, I'm still further ahead because of the trade-in tax. The difference on a new truck a small price to pay for some peace of mind.

 

I was in your boat for the past few months, I decided to ultimately NOT trade or make any changes. My truck is 2017 with 40k, set up the way i want, maintained the way i want, maintenance and everything done correctly by me. No major issues with it and its paid off so I decided it isn't worth it to pick up a car payment since a new truck would cost upwards of 45k and i'd have to start all over. Risk getting at truck with issues, etc. So I didn't make the jump currently even though i could've gotten 750 MORE than what i paid for it

 

Something in didnt see you mention was what packages you currently have vs whats on the new one. If you currently have advanced tech and whatever else, but the new one doesn't, youre losing all of those features plus paying more.

If both trucks are the same it might be worth it. After fees and other stuff, you'll probably be payong $5-6k over your trade. Which really isnt too bad for getting 50k miles back plus a renewed factory warranty.

All that being said, the "best" strategy right now is to probably sell your truck, drive a $1000 beater for 6 months, then buy a new truck when the market corrects.

Well just talked to the dealer and that truck is no longer available. They are going to call me back and tell me if they have any other new ones on the way.

 

Didnt read the post, but if you are going to get another sport i'd say its not worth it. Might be worth it to get a TRDOR if you are going to use/need the locker at all.

Yup, that's exactly why I had to order mine. Wasn't even my custom order, it was just configured by the dealership and then sent off to production. Good luck with your purchase!

 

To me, it would come down to do I want to take on additional debt. If you can do the switcheroo without taking on a bunch of new debt then why not. But if you will be taking on thousands of dollars of new debt to replace a perfectly good running vehicle with pretty much the exact same vehicle, then I would pass.

I'd (hopefully) get ~$35k for my truck on trade (when I paid $27.5k for it), into a truck with premium features (LED, JBL, BSM,Radar, Heated Seats, sunroof (all of which I don't have now)), no miles, and a factory warranty for $10k+TTF. New truck for $10k? In my case, it's a no-brainer.

 

Yeah i agree. They just got back with me and said they have 2 brand new offroads, one with premium tech package and one without on the way in 2 weeks. Gives me time to take all my aftermarket suspension off. I may pull the trigger today

 

With the market the way it is right now, I personally would just put down the deposit (ask if it's refundable) and scoop up the one you want. They *wont* have a problem selling any of them quickly, and you'll have to wait longer if you waffle. I'd say take what's available and in a few years, trade/buy new again. Also, if you've got lift, look into whether or not the safety sense will work still if you install it on the new truck (if you go premium). Food for thought, and at the end of the day, the decision is up to you.

Your current truck has an artificially inflated price, the truck you are buying has an artificially inflated price.
