I understand that I may not be up to date on the newest tech but I'll be able to learn most of it in the first week. I really don' want to shell out money to get certified (8 tests will be a lot of money with no guarantee of a job). I doubt I could recertify as old as my certs are.

    In most cases? No.

An employer needs what they need right then and organizations are unemotional. Its numbers. Either you have what they need to buy or you don't.

You could always shoot for one of those tech-assist type jobs where other mechs/techs needing a helping hand call you for advice. Flexes your knowledge/experience without actually getting dirty anymore. Since Covid hit most of those jobs are work from home now too. Identifix, Alldata, etc.

Did a phone interview yesterday. I think it went well. Waiting for a follow up call.
Not an automotive tech job but it is technical and my background is a plus.

As usual, I either get a phone call and nothing after that or no phone or email, nothing.

The job that I interviewed on Wednesday, I called and sent a follow up email to get the status of the application and I get no reply.

Anybody know a field where my mechanical knowledge will be a plus?

I was looking at a field service tech position.

Had a really good interview and I'm visiting the shop tomorrow.
Had many of my questions answered and the pay is what I'm looking for.
It's a small company with only 18 employees.

Good luck. Small businesses can be a toss up. Either a great place that’s well run, or a complete crap show. I’ve had both.

This kind of situation is what I believe leads to why people start there own business. As far as no call back or replies to e-mails may be do to: They don't utilize the phone for hiring, e-mails may be screened just like your resume for key words/phrases both good and bad, the employer may be using an outside source for hiring even if they are advertising themselves. Are you aware of www.carpeople.com if not check it out. It is for the North West but they may be able to help or there may be insight gained from checking it out. There may be something similar in your area. If not it might even be a business opportunity for you.

Good luck. I've worked for a couple of smaller companies that were great. I hope you land something decent soon.

What area of CT are you from? My whole family came from all over CT. Mostly from Fairfield and Milford. I was born in Detroit but conceived in Milford, CT. lol

Stopped in to the shop for an interview after work today.
I was there for a little over an hour. Talked with the owners, took a tour of the place and saw what they do.
    It's a very specialized field.
If I accept the job, I'll be working in the shop doing inspections and misc. stuff.

When they and I fell comfortable with my abilities, they'll have me doing inspections and maintenance at various companies that are in the US, Canada and Mexico.
I'll be traveling with someone to start and then be by myself.

I have to call them Monday with a Yes or No. I'll need to buy steel toe boots if I accept the position.
