Built my truck on Toyota’s website and..

Once I chose the color (voodoo blue), a pop up appeared saying that this color was only available with LED headlights.

Cue my upset that my truck has LED DRLs, but only the standard projector halogens for headlights.

I feel like I have to have misunderstood something somewhere along the lines, but I’m pretty bummed if my trucks actually supposed to have the LEDs stock, because I would definitely prefer them.

i am confused. You dont want the new LED headlights?
I just did the build and got the pop up, it comes standard with the new LED headlight/fogs for the $485 upgrade price. I dont see the issues unless you wanted the projector style headlights

Are you assuming there was a mix up at the factory?

 

werll that pop up didnt always happen. It might be toyota is only bulding the truck in that config now. a few months ago when I got mine I was going to get voodoo blue and never got that pop up building it.

 

Honestly??? Have you compared LEDs to Halogens in an actual nighttime driving scenario? My halogens outperform LEDS for distance and illumination. It's weird how when you look at LEDs from a distance in front of a vehicle they are blinding, but when you are behind the wheel they are such crap. I've got a neighbor that was bragging up his new Ford, making fun of my Taco and the "antiquated technology" so I challenged him to a headlight duel. We went out to a place about eight miles from town in a dark valley, and I took an old yard sale sign out and we set it up at a distance. It turned out we could read the yard sale sign almost thirty feet farther with the Taco lights.
I'm not buying the hype over LEDS.

 

I don't know the exact reason but Manufacturers often bundle certain options with various other options for 'reasons." Sounds like the key factor is that color with the Tacoma.

What you should be "upset" about is that a $16k Corolla has LED headlights standard but a $40k Tacoma makes you pay extra for them. Toyota should genuinely be ashamed of that.

 

Might be a limited supply left or something is out of inventory

A definite possibility, if that’s the case kind of makes me wish I waited a bit (kind of rushed the process), although I understand that could have brought about its own set of issues.

Perhaps it is a regional thing and the website was not based off of your region? Us Canadian's do not get the LED headlights unless you buy a Pro!

Did you buy the truck today?? You know, manufacturers mix and match options and packages all the time. Don't get butthurt. Enjoy what you have and not what you don't have. Be happy.

 

I'm going to have to disagree with you here depending on your meaning. I've had the OEM Halogens, installed LEDs bulbs (which was meh) and now I have the OEM LEDs, the OEM LEDs are 100x better than the prior 2.

 

No, got it the last week of April. And I wouldn’t call it butthurt, mild upset ness maybe lol. I’ve been thinking about getting LEDs since before I even got the truck, and it’s now telling me that it should have come with them or preinstalled. Mildly annoyed is probably the best description, I love the truck, and am not upset with it in the slightest. It, just as with many things in life, could be a bit better.

 

What's on the Monroney sticker of your truck? If it says LED headlights then go back to the dealership and as @Tacospike says, "DEMAND IT!! A REPRESENTATIVE SAID YES!! Knock some shelves over!! Trip a child"

 

Understood, but I think they simply changed up the options and packages. My Tundra has probably the best OEM LED headlight on the market. My wife's CRV projector headlights light up the same area though, it's just a different color of light.
I actually put my old halogen lights back on my farm cart after switching to LED. The area you could see was whiter, but the halogens, even though yellow, would go further so you could see more! So take it from a guy who has many light applications, LED's are just okay. Great for brake and turn signals and DRL's too. You can definitely see al LED before you can see a halogen. Much brighter, just does not go far.

 

So you probably know by now the TRD OR comes with LED DRLs/ Fogs, the LED Headlights are an additional package, If your window sticker says LED headlights, yeah you got shafted and its probably to late to do anything as they have different wiring harnesses.
