Built my truck on Toyota’s website and..

I read it twice and am confused too.... So OP "rebuilt" his current truck on the Toyota site and is upset that NOW it's offered as LED only....

 

Have you compared purpose built LED lights/housings to your purpose built halogen lights/housing or did you just put LED bulbs in your halogen housings expecting to get something good out of it?

 

Aftermarket LED's tend to be garbage.

Honestly? Have you compared OEM LED's to OEM halogens in an actual nighttime driving scenario? I have and there is no comparison between the halogens that come stock on the Taco vs. their LED counterparts.

 

That is odd....The OEM Halogens on my 17 were garbage. The OEM LEDs are a huge improvement. Ive driven both

 

This problem can be solved for $1,400-$1,500.

 

It is regional, Here in Florida you can only get the optional LED headlights if you get the $5100 premium tech upgrade ( thanks SET) but go but go out of the state/SET area and you can get the $485 package.

 

Just convert them to HID from xenon depot.
HID bulbs work so well with our housings.
Not sure why Toyota went as far as to give us projector housing and then not put HIDs in them.
I personally prefer HIDs over LED.
If you convert your lights to LEDs and live in a cold climate they won't produce enough heat to melt ice build up.

Toyota’s website only lists configurations that are actually available in your area, so I would assume that there aren’t any voodoo blues available without the LED option. That was obviously not the case when you bought your truck.

I have the OEM Toyota LED's. The Halogens aren't even in the running against the factory LED's.
I can see these things reflecting off of road signs (especially White) twice as far as any other vehicle I've ever owned.
They could even take bright away as an option as you only need dim.
And Toyota has the technology down to. Never been flashed for bright lights, not once.

 

Agreed. My 2017 had some of the worst halogens I have experienced. They were set low from the factory but still sucked after a proper aim. The 2020 with LED has been great.

 

Yeah... that's a good point. LEDs reflect off reflective road signs better than halogens, for sure. But looking at the road surface or a deer stepping into your path I would take halogens.

 

Must be rough having such poor vision that night time driving is impossible without the miracle that is LED headlights.

 

Hence, my comments about only needing dim. The OEM LED's light up the road on dim equal or better than most cars/trucks I've owned on bright

 

i have LED’s on my tacoma and drive a Ford with LED’d for work. Gonna be honest, the Ford LED’s aren’t very good. I would find a Tacoma with them and report back. I would bet the results change.

 

And see? That is where my experience is different. Oncoming LEDs look like aircraft landing lights... and you would expect that they would illuminate everything better than halogens. But while a reflective surface will shine bright, anything non-reflective doesn't seem to be as well illuminated. I've had this discussion with several other people too, and some people like LEDs and others just think the issue is about hype over new technology. I don't like LEDs as well as halogens, or for that matter as much as incandescents. They just don't illuminate as well. But some people see it differently.
And this leads me to wondering if there is, indeed, a difference in how we see.
I would never choose to use LEDs in my home.

 

I have also noticed that LED lighting within the Toyota range is variable. While my Tacoma is great, our 2019 RAV that we had for a short time had really terrible light output with the LED lighting.

 

I suggest you drive a 20+ Taco with the factory LED headlights. The difference may surprise you. I travel frequently in rural areas at night and find that I now rarely need my high-beams or my driving lights.

I LED’d all the fixtures in my house before I finished un-packing. My electric bill (when I don’t use my central air) is ~$50 in an area where comparable houses are spending $80-100 for electric. So yes, I’m a fan of this newer technology
