Why do dealerships require a Pro VIN to purchase a Pro grille?

So that those with a sport trim don’t run it?

Toyota requires it. There are supposed to be certain things that are unique to the Pro trim. The aftermarket usually blatantly rips them off though.

With so many decent quality knock offs available at this point, I find it hard to believe that Toyota even cares!

That being said though, toyota refers to it as a “trd grill” in their TRD lift kit documentation. So you might be able to get it. The new trail edition is also coming with this same grill next year.

Did you try to purchase it from a dealer parts website or contact the dealer? I've never had to enter my VIN when just ordering from a website

Yeah...silly....I went with an aftermarket one and it was good quality....very happy with the upgrade....agree with what was said above....with so many companies selling them, the Toyota dealer should just sell them as people want them.

I don't know why they do that. Maybe it is because they don't want to sell you one.

I personally don't give a shit. I mean some guy who drives a mini can buy one, as far as I'm concerned.

I always tell them proceed without my VIN.

Pros sell for more money. If they sell pro parts to non pro owners they dilute them and have less people buying them.

Huh? If they sell pro parts to non pro owners, wouldn't they have more people buying them?

Pros. The vehicles. They dilute the pro image / brand.

Oh, I get you are saying. But you have to admit that this ship has long since sailed with all the aftermarket "Pro Style" grills for sale out there. Toyota can do nothing about that source of "Pro image dilution" so I just don't understand why they just don't cave and sell these grills to whomever wants one. If you cannot get one from Toyota, you can certainly get one that is a spot on match from about a dozen other sources. Just does not make business sense IMO.

Yeah for sure. Just explaining to some why vin matching exists.
