hello tw, im in plans to slowly start making the hidden nooks and crannies of my truck rust resistant as i have spotted some rust in some areas despite it being brand new. I bough a same can of the popular Fluid Film but i absolutely hate the smell as it smells like pure vomit. im not sure i would want to have the inside of my truck smelling like that especially spraying doors and rockers and such. I was wondering if you guys have heard of the brand CorrosionFree: 20210706_111329.jpg
I hear its about the same as NHOU and that it doesn't smell or swell rubbers and lap weld foam type seam seals, unfortunately i cant find NHOU in aresol can form where this brand is, Is this good to go?
I haven't been able to try a can of 3M cavity wax as some have recommended me the product in an earlier thread but id have to do some more research first.

Been using only cosmoline rp-342 rust preventive...same stuff bmw and mercedes send their car chassis coated with. Its even very popular with the military. Had it on my tacoma since last july...been through a bad salty winter, and a whole lot of rain. Job still looks like it was done yesterday.

Only the day you spray it on. If you can with stand the heat on a hot day dressed in one of those cheap hazmat suits, that seems the best time to apply it, as its going to drip some while getting into all crevices before setting up in 15 minutes or so. In an hr it'll be dry. Imo, done outside in your driveway with plenty of ventilation the smell is your least worries...the stuff drips, and once it does ...good luck getting it off. I did my truck on a 90 degree plus day in my driveway. By evening i didn't smell this stuff anymore.

Woolwax is basically Fluid Film without the smell. I don't find that the smell lingers for very long - maybe a day or two after applying.

Just wondering why the the smell is so important? It goes away after it drys, which can be the next day.....or are people wanting the smell to linger for long periods afterwards? Myself, the corrosion protection that lasts the longest without needing to be reapplied every year is more important.

++1 on Cosmoline based barriers being the BEST.
++++++++1 On applying it during a hot day.

Only way to get it off is by scrubbing with Varsol/Mineral Spirits/White Gasoline.

If you get it on your hands/anywhere else on you, even after you try and wash / wipe it off with Varsol you'll find you still feel "waxy".

Fluid Film , Woolwax, wax based Barriers WILL wash off in under 6 months in high water splash areas.

You can power wash off FF and Ww, but you will not be able to power wash off Cosmoline even with soap and water.

One thing any Barrier type of protection will not be 100% effective on is galvanic corrosion, (it reduces it though, because it blocks most of the oxygen).

Galvanic corrosion happens when two dissimilar metals are touching.

So before I sprayed my truck with something Cosmoline based, (CorrosionX-HD)
I used a product called ACF-50, (even in the engine bay, and everywhere except belts and brake friction surfaces).
It is a very thin fluid so it will seep into more areas than the more Viscous cosmiline or waxes, but it has a chemical/material in it that acts similar to an anode and blocks the galvanic corrosion.
It by is self is fine for areas not exposed to water spray, but like Fluid Film and Woolwax it can be washed off with soap and water so would need to be applied to places like the wheel wells, rear propeller shaft and front of the rear axle etc...
It also has the advantage of being an excellent lubricant, I notice my suspension is SIGNIFICANTLY smoother after I apply it.
And it neutralizes and converts any existing oxidation/rust after a short time. And it withstands high heat which 99% of barrier products cant.

Then when you put Cosmoline on top of the ACF-50 it will seep in to cracks a little better, but will take longer to dry to it's finished "wax like" coating.

The Red Rust Check stuff you get in cans is very similar to ACF-50. Which is also very similar to Automatic Transmission Fluid. (ATF is hard on rubber so don't soak any rubber bushing in the stuff if you use that)

I did find that areas under the truck where I had scraped across things had removed the Cosmoline, but then again they were scrapes down to bare, metal.

Heat will cause Cosmoline to flow so after a hot summer day it may have "fixed itself" already,
but I discovered when I fogged the underside of the truck with ACF-50 is softened the Cosmiline and it "healed"/re-flowed over the drag marks.

I cosoilined my truck thoroughly 3 years ago, and in the spring and fall I "Fog" the underside 1 QUICK swipe leaning under from the driver side, (undercoating sprayer at 80 PSI, 1 second trigger pull in each wheelwell, 1 QUICK swipe leaning under from the driver side, 1 QUICK swipe leaning under from the passenger side, One at the rear and one at the front. Remember this is not a spray it is a "fog".

I live in Southern Ontario, roads layered in Rock Salt, that sounds like a gravel road when you drive on them for about 2-4 months of the year. And lets not forget all the sand they also put down so you get sandblasted too.

I installed my rear Bilstein shocks in December, and I made the mistake of using Fluid Film on them because I figured it was too cold for Cosmoline and I was doing this in my driveway when it was around the freezing mark. Fluid Film and Woolwax are the "go-to" on most forums...
Shocks were showing red rust before spring....

Underside of my truck looks BETTER than what you will see for a BRAND NEW truck on the lot for corrosion/rust!

I was under there yesterday with a creeper installing a tranny skid and had a good look about and even peered into the frame with a borescope and still looks brand new.

Pic was for the skid plate but you can see some of the underside.... whole thing looks the same, no rust at all.

With the ACF-50 it makes it greasy vs waxy like straight Cosmoline but I like how smooth my suspension is when I use it.

Pics from last year (so at 2 year mark, but still looks the same now)

Yellow on the shock bolt is Cosmoline and dirt, not rust.

Now to answer the original question about Corrosionfree, it works pretty good, in fact from my experience and from some of the "Youtube" tests it is an Par or slightly better than products like Fluid Film or Woolwax.....

BUT almost any product is not as resistant to direct water spray as what any product that is Cosmoline based would be.

Lol that's gotta be something like the RP-342 black, cosmoline is naturally a brownish/yellow wax type colour.
    The poor guy rofl.

Speaking from experience with it on my hands...
even after repeated scrubs with Varsol/Mineral spirits then soap and water he's gonna feel "waxy" for a few days.... and look like he's wearing eye liner, lol.

FULL covering is definitely recommended, lol you don't want it on your hands let alone all over your face.

You did remind me of one of my "tricks" though,

Take a clear full face shield,
cover it in multiple layers of saran wrap,
tape part of each layer of saran wrap so as it gets too covered in whatever you are spraying you can easily peel it off exposing the next layer that is clean.

    Yup, it was RP-342.

Have you ever washed your hair in mineral spirits? Luckily I don't have much!

    LOL

Wife said i looked similar to that when i did my truck last year, but i used safety goggles. Reminds me of my epic 2 stroke week long road bike rides back in the 70's.

I used close to (7) cans but you’ve got to get yourself one of these handles. Your finger tip would never make it through the whole job.

A 6 pack seems to cover it all well....including removing the engine shield to get everything under that section to taking down the spare tire, and getting under there to. Removing the tires and putting the truck on a good set jack stands with a tarp underneath works best. One thing learned on my past tundra is to coat any steel power steering lines, or the salt will eat right through them.
