Actually Matt I'm thinking of getting the deavers for $300 and I would buy those ICON rear shocks you have if you would ship them :)

i guess i missed the part that the j59 pack was only $300. thats a pretty good deal.

i already sold the shocks and honestly, unless you can find a used pair for a cheap price dont buy them at the full price of $400. they were not worth that much. i'd try the solo motorsport shocks hoops and a 2.0 king or saw shock. that way you can custom valve it to your specs and well as have the ability to rebuild it. the icons were not rebuildable or serviceable

They are from Dixon Bros so I would think they should be in good shape. He is supposed to send photos. And yeah thanks for being honest that sounds like the best route

Looking at that hoop those shocks are outside the springs. I don't think my wheels would fit like that without spacers right?

you'd have to run wheel spacers on a 1st gen. I'd weld a piece of DOM behind the axle perpendicular to the frame. Put some shock tabs on the axle and that tubing and run any 2.5" 12" stroke shock. It will run awesome with an add a leaf. It all comes down to shock power and good valving.

That does look like an awesome mid setup. But I'm just trying to prevent broken springs while I save for LT rear. Im not afraid of my shocks going through the bed once I go all the way

IMO the j59 and add a leaves are about the same in reliability. Deavers will give you more axle wrap. If you do break your stock springs you can grab some used ones out of a junk yard and be flying over whoops in no time again. You wont destroy the add a leaves. If those stock spring are sagged out an really slow, get those deavers. They'll hold out for about a year or 2 depending how much you beat on them.

So i had my head up in the wheel wells of a raptor today, and I was thinking of why ford, and dodge on the ram runner use ball joints instead of uniballs. Is it just to keep the amount of maintenance and price down?

prob the same reason why they used the block out back, cut cost.

doesn't matter to me, i'd still rock the shit out of one. TC is coming out with UCA's for the Raptor pretty soon. that solves the upper ball joint problem

From what I have seen the farther out on the axle the better. Its a leverage issue. You would want to run the shocks on the outside of the frame (and outside the leafs) but I think us 1st gens have to get a wider axle. Im not sure if we can get enough extra width from spacers. I think the only disadvantage to having them outside would be logistics to get them to mount without rubbing the tires at flex.

I for one would love one place with EVERYONES long travel pictures posted. Not like the current threads where everything becomes 200 pages long but if there was a gallery of long travel setup photos only. No jumping, no driving, no dream trucks from the internet. Just design
