I’m looking at getting a 2021 Tacoma, I do live in the city where I would be mostly using as daily driver, however I am into camping and go hiking up in the mountains. I see the sport 4 x 4 does not have locking differential‘s and the off-road does. Not really sure if I’m going to get into serious off-roading or not. Would you recommend getting an off road or sport 4x4?

I prefer the ride of the off road to the sport

you also get MTS/crawl/ATRAC and the locking rear

You can go a lot of places in 2wd. The Sport is plenty capable with 4wd, and the scoop makes panties drop. But the OR is for real men. :D

I got an OR and immediately got a hood scoop. It's the only way to go unless you're happy with a Pro.

Go for it, get the off road if you can find the one you like.

The Sport is just an appearance package for the SR5, the Offroad is actually worth the price.

Larger rear end, crawl control, electronic brake booster, and you won't have to try and stare over the top of your non functional skwep on the trail.

Off road. The suspension is more compliant from everything I've read. Plus, I HAVE and OR and it's awesome.

Drive both, however the sport is designed to be more road worthy while the off road is designed to be better off road. The off road is probably better bang for you buck as far as a more “capable” truck. I would also like to point out that most of the real off-road trucks that need the locker, have many other modifications that increase the need to use that rear locker.

Sport manual transmission also gets larger rear.

There may be other logistical considerations due to availability and the configurations and allocations available. For example, I wanted a DCSB Sport with LED headlights and MT and could not find one. I wound up with the OR and have no regrets.

    Like, so many.
Just get the OR and call it a day. As long as it’s 4wd, either will meet your needs.

Off Road if you have any interest in off roading which it sounds like you do, save some cash and go for the SR5 if not.

As others have mentioned the OR gets you a lot of hardware(locking diff, fancy off road traction control modes, a not-amazing but better suspension), the Sport is hardly anything more than an appearance package.

Only reason to get the Sport is if you want an Access Cab with a stick, because for reasons I can't fathom that's the only trim where you can get that combination.

Had both, prefer the OR in almost every way.

Hated the skewp. My sport didn't have an adjustable drivers seat so it was always in my field of vision.

I still can’t think of a time when driving on normal roads that the scoop was in my way.

Maybe I'm just in a weird height range lol. Also hated when it got water in there and it would fling it drop by drop up onto the windshield.

Skewp free now and proud of it!
