If you chose correctly at the dealer, you'd be one of the cool kids flexing on curbs.

I have a Sport. If I could do it again I’d definitely get the OR. Reason being is that I’d have a bigger rear diff and included rear locker. I do have front and rear lockers now but It would’ve saved me money by not buying a rear locker.

You should've seen the two Jeep guys with 37s looking at me like I'm crazy in my bone stock OR on Rowher Trail in SoCal. I've done that trail multiple times and the OR does it with ease in stock form. The locking diff definitely comes in handy at a few spots.

I really don't get all the debate in this thread between the two. Especially at the same price the OR is an absolute no-brainer. If the Sport is cheaper or you can get a better deal on one then it really comes down to what you're going to use the truck for. If you're not going to push the OR to its limits you likely won't need one. In a Zombie apocalypse I'll take the OR over a Sport 100% of the time.

Oh well, I’ll just have to live with it now. Fortunately, my scoop is big enough to hide my tears.

You can always reach up to where your crawl control should be and grab those aviator sunglasses to hide the tears too. That and it should help with the sun glare off that monstrosity of a faux scoop.

If a US-spec Tacoma OR could be had with a 6' bed and a manual transmission as god intended, you'd be correct.

However, Zombie apocalypse and I'm reaching for something with a Cummins.

This is a good suggestion. An SR/SR5 equipped with 4x4 can tackle light off-road trails, and would probably be more than enough to satisfy most Tacoma buyers' needs. If you're not working within a budget and want all of the creature comforts, then the Off Road is the truck for you. However, if you don't plan on using the off road accessories that the truck comes with, the Limited trim is basically the same setup as the SR/SR5, but with every available feature offered on the Tacomas. Personally, I don't like the look of all of the chrome on the Limited, but the Nightshade blacks everything out and looks much better, IMO.

I prefer the trd off road 4x4 DCSB. It rides super smooth on road and it has the factory options for going off road when you want or need. Have your cake and eat it too. :D:mudding:

If you compare a fully loaded off road to a pro, the difference in price is only about $2000. Resell on the pro makes it worth the extra money.

Probably on sticker, but the ORs can (could) be had below MSRP. Most dealerships hold MSRP or elevate on Pro models. There are some who got the allotment and want it gone, but you have to work for those, unless it just happens to be your dealership. My MSRP was $40,272 but I was OTD at $32K.

EDIT: I realize times are different, but the same principles are at work in the background. I do however agree that it is worth it to have the personal conversation about SR/SR5 + any upgrades. I probably would have stayed in my SR5 if it was longbed and definitely if it was 4x4 and tech package. Though 4x4 wouldn’t have been a deal breaker. Don’t get me wrong, I love my OR and it was worth it for me. But, that’s my path… not everyone’s.

The sport is a weird middle ground. Same money as OR. But less options. The scoop looks good but even without it the hood makes seeing out over the front a pia. I’m in the condom theory between them. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I use the rear locker quite a bit. I wouldn’t buy a truck without at least a rear locker.

Yes, because it is the 21st century and nobody likes notchy manuals that feel like they're from a 70s era farm tractor.

I guess if you drive East in the morning and West in the evening you may see some. I've never seen any glare that would bother me but I've heard it's a thing.
