Will my new wheels stop the rubbing (285/75/16 tires)?

Just ordered some 16” Method Nv305 with 0mm offset and 4.5” backspacing. Also Maxxis Rzr AT 285/75/16 tires. I have a 3” bilstein 5100 setup. My KO2s which are also 285/75/16 rub when turning sharp on the UCA with stock off road wheels, which to my knowledge are +30 offset. Will I have this issue with the new wheels? Searched posts but didn’t find the exact answer.

You shouldn’t rub on the uca with the new setup but will likely rub on the cab mount and fender liner

my brother in law turned me on to them, he’s got them on his 02. Reviews seem to be positive, love the weight and look. Seems like they perform really well also. How many miles do you have on them?

You should be fine. What I’m running is zero offset on same size tire. No rub on full lock. Might rub a lil stuffing the tire while wheeling but figure that out then if it does.

You might need to remove mud flaps and use a heat gun to gain clearance on fender liners.

I would say maybe. 4.5” is still pretty close to the UCA.that’s usually the minimum that’s recommended

Is there anything we can do to trim up the mud flaps to fit?

You may rub the fender liner. I have 285/75/16 on OEM wheels with 1.25" spacers installed. I had to trim about 1/8" off the rear side of liner. Remember also...you can have your alignment corrected and add more castor to move the wheel slightly forward with no ill effects. You can do this with OEM UCA's but may require an aftermarket. I installed SPC items during lift install just for the margin to have in the future, moved castor forward, and still had the little trim. Good luck!

    Like, so many.
Yeah, that's similar to my setup and I would definitely rub without a CMC. I trimmed the inner fender as well.

Yeah I forgot, I did CMC also. Every little bit helps!

I have about 10k miles on them now and they seem to be holding up well. Pretty quiet, considering how aggressive the tread is.

If you aren’t set on the wheels and it’s not too late to cancel the order I’d spend the money on UCAs instead of avoiding rub is the primary goals. Adjustable UCAs with stock OR wheels and a good alignment by someone who really knows how to do an off road alignment seems to be the ticket to running 285/75r16s without rubbing or cutting metal. I’m running 285 KO2s with 2.5” Ironman FCPs and SPC UCAs, no rub at any articulation besides a tiny bit on the frame at full lock.

I would avoid a CMC if at all possible. It’s cheap and simple to have done so people seem to not think it’s a big deal, that mount is designed the way it is for a reason and I would not want to get in an accident with a CMC.

Interesting point. I'm not an engineer but...
I've been a welder/fabricator my whole life and understanding the low angle of the chop and the 100% welding of a thicker piece of material to close off the exposed area offers a lot of structural integrity. I would be curious if anyone HAS IN FACT been in an impact situation where the CMC may have been stressed?

I could see the concern of being in an accident with a cab mount relocate not holding up in a serious crash but I doubt a decent CMC with a plate welded back in would change the outcome much vs stock.

You bring up an interesting point, buying new wheels and tires because I don’t like the stock wheels and tires are getting bald. I’m thinking and hoping because stock wheels are +30 offset and new wheels are 0 that with 4.5 backspacing should clear uca

I don't think so. I'm no Tacoma Master, but I've had 6 wheel/tire combos on my truck. I couldn't run 33s without removing the front mud flaps. At the time, I chose to keep the rear mud flaps and had no clearance issues there.
As another member posted, SPC upper control arms with proper alignment will push your wheels/tires forward to help avoid contact with the cab mount. Just be careful selecting the right person/shop for alignment. Within 1 shop with an excellent reputation, I had 2 different guys align my SPC UCAs. The first guy did an awesome job and helped me clear 35s. When I returned for realignment months later, a different guy pushed my wheels backward and totally jacked up my alignment.

what was your rim offset when you were running 33s? I’ll be on skinny’s (255/85r16) on stock OR rims of +30mm so thinking that’ll nix the need for UCAs

AND 6 wheel/tire combos on a taco??? I’d consider you master
