It's really not that bad. I mean it's not like I'm out grazing in the fields eating grass. I could flop some meatballs on a plate and
you would swear they were beef... but they're not. I could put a plant-based burger between 2 buns and a beef-burger between
2 buns and you would be hard-pressed to tell me which was which. I can grill that plant-based-burger to boot.

I just bought my 2021 and I'd like to stick around for a while longer and enjoy it, my son on the other hand is rooting for the grim reaper LOL.

Do you at least get to keep the meat?

A friend of mine hit a deer up in Colorado in his Dodge Durango pick up. He got to keep the deer (he's a hunter) except for the head.

When asked what he used to take it, he said it was a wildcat round, a "360 Dakota."

Anyway, some states will allow you to keep the meat if you want.

No. It's an arrestable offense in some states to kill a game animal and not use the meat. You can always donate it, though.

When I hit my deer I paralyzed her hind quarters and she exhausted herself trying to pull herself out of a ditch. The deputy said they would be awhile so I asked the 911 dispatcher if I should try to put the deer down. Dispatcher assumed I had a gun and said to do so if I could do it safely. I cut the doe’s throat with a pocket knife and she didn’t even struggle. Reminded me of those nature shows when a big cat catches an antelope or something, and the antelope just surrenders to its fate and is eaten alive.

We have a facebook group where I live that picks up and butchers deer carcasses, so I posted her there and someone got her.

As long as you're not at fault you make a diminished value claim against the other person's insurance to recoup the lost value.

    Glad you weren't hurt.

You might want to consider upgrading your truck with a good steel bumper for peace of mind.

Even with a steel bumper a deer strike will mash/mangle some bits on the front end and the deer will scamper into the woods or die.

A steel bumper will not prevent a deer strike.

A Bull Bar would likely be better, but still not perfect.

I want to believe that my steel bumper will help some but realistically if you're moving fast all those soft parts are flying right through every opening and destroying the plastic and whatever else is behind it

Our frames have the pre stressed crushable areas as well. Doesn't matter what you run up front the frame will always tweak

The other driver was underinsured and I had to file the claim through mine. (I wasn't at fault)

I'm a bit salty at my insurance company over the deal. Obviously the world doesn't agree with my logic, but I feel that since my insurance company decided not to total my truck - they should fork up the cash for the value lost on my truck.

Install a prototype deer exploder bumper. Guaranteed to shred to harmless little bite size bits.

Before reading all the way through, I assumed you were just gonna choke a deer to death in a headlock, however slitting its throat with a pocketknife exceeded my imagination.

A steel bumper will often lessen the damage.
I fancy myself as a good knife sharpener, and I fancy my knives as being acceptably sharp, but well-furred deer hide surprised me. It required a little sawing action before I got good enough bloodflow to feel confident she would pass quickly.

Hitting the deer with your 4Runner will definitely prevent any damage to your Tacoma. :)
