So has the 10-year reunion trip already started being planned?

Called the FS and they said Goose Lake Road is never closed, its just not passable. Technically you could drive it any day of the year if you had a vehicle capable of doing so. I got the local Cooke City guys number to get the inside scoop on how passable it is right now.

@MTgirl None of these areas are within the fire closure but they all have bans on fires. We were supposed to go through the Pryors first but our route was through the fire closure so we had to drop that day.

Wow that's interesting. Well good luck! There is a gate there and I swear I've seen it closed. But whatever.

Please be good and stay on the trail. The tundra up there scars very easily. It's one of my favorite trails ever, so enjoy it!

Waiting on a call back from the Cooke City guy but we might just go to Sawtooth instead. No worries about staying on trail from me, 2 of us on this trip almost got in a fight with some jeep guys in CO about 6 years back trying to get them back on a trail.

Can anyone recommend a good shop to get an alignment and new tires in Bozeman? I’m Borrowing a friends garage next weekend to install some new suspension (from butte but I live on a steep ass hill with no garage). So I haven’t had any sort of experience at any of the shops there.
    Thanks in advance!

I've had really awesome experiences with Tom's Alignment here in Bozeman. Rising Sun is a speciality Toyota shop that does solid work, can't remember if they do alignments or not though.

Anyone here have an ECGS tool? I'm going to replace my hubs and I bought a sleeve bushing a while ago. Figure now is a good time to do it. I'm working at Yellowstone, but I'm going to be moving my permanent residence from Missoula to Libby these next few days. So I'll be all over the state this week :p

alignment - Tom's in downtown. Little hole in the wall place but they will do a killer job. and they book about a month out typically.
tires - i like the guys at Big O and they always treat me good, been going there for almost a decade now.

I saw that in the local news too. Still not a lot of details other than the person with with a group of cyclists camping. Doesn't say if the attack happened in the camp or if they were on their bikes. I know that bikers are told to be extra cautious in bear country since they move faster and quieter that anyone on foot so its easier to come into a bad situation. Looks like it was a pretty open area where they were at too

Wasn’t one of the last deaths by grizzly a few years ago a mountain biker that collided with a bear, and then it attacked him?

Mckelvey lake trail is closed as well as maybe a few others near it. Saw this today:

FYI: McKelvey Lake Trail (FRS 965B) is closed
THE BAD NEWS: As of yesterday, there IS a Forest Service Road/Trail Closure Order on McKelvey Lake Trail (FRS 965B) due to multiple bridge failures. I spoke with the FS at 8:30am (7/7/21) so the information is current. There may be other roads/trails involved as well.
As usual, rumors abound. Yes, someone tried to repair one of the bridges but the work is not stable and other bridges, beyond that one, still have MAJOR safety issues. The Forest Service is already aware of people going around the signage showing the closure order. Please don't be one of those people. It is illegal to go around the signs and damages the goodwill so many are working to foster here.
THE GOOD NEWS: A bunch of organizations, including the Citizens for Balanced Use, The Trail Riders Anonymous, the Bozeman Mountaineers, and others have stepped up and offered not just volunteer assistance but substantial financial assistance to the Forest Service to help make these repairs happen. So...GREAT JOB WHEELERS!!!
The Madison Ranger District and the new Recreation Coordinator, Joel Sather, are impressed with the responses they have received. They tell me these efforts WILL have a positive effect on the time frame to make the needed repairs.
I will have more details to post soon, including the Closure Order. It was issued after inspections all the bridges on this route.
