took my truck out for a test drive tonight after refinishing my headlights. The 3M kit turned out looking pretty good. I was amazed at the light output with the lenses being clear now. The plastic headlights dim slowly over time, and we're not really aware of how dim the light output becomes until you either replace them or do a kit like I did. what a difference it has made. If your 1st gen headlights have become dingy and yellowed over time, get one of the restore kits and give it a try, you'll be glad you did.

I have that exact same tick, it goes away for about 20 miles after an oil change and then comes back. Have noticed it for at least 40k, let me know if you find anything out about it

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust system?

Me too. I checked the valve clearance when I did the valve covers and all were in spec.

It’s gotta be (healthy) valve noise. I know these particular engines have a “noisy” valve train? At least that’s the reason given for the knock sensors only being used above certain RPMs…I’ve often wondered if it’s the valves making a tick when they make contact with the valve seats

But it’s reassuring that im not the only one.

Did you figure out a way to mount a rack to a shell?
I dont have my shell anymore BUT, I used this stuff, it accepts regular hex bolts.
    Cheaper than the Thule/rhino/yakima stuff

i actually saw this as a common mod on some 3rd gen tacos.... since we dont have enough space in our center consoles to hang a nalgene off of, i threw a chalk bag behind the armrest. simple install in 2 mins; just unscrew the screws, drill holes through the straps, install and screw all back together. great to not have my nalgene jostling all about, and now the negative space behind the arm rest is being put to at least some use in my first gen single cab.

also, taylor at static climbing is awesome: go support them through their site! https://www.staticclimbing.com/waxed-canvas-collection/waxed-canvas-chalk-bag-gunpowder

Got an OEM third brake light and installed LED bulbs- it works!! I’m not sure why the LED Amazon light stopped and the new replacement didn’t work. But now I’m not going to be stopped for that issue.

I just changed the lens & installed LED bulbs. But kept the stock assembly.
