Steering position sensor zero out

Hope it takes the 2nd time. Flat ground, steering wheel perfectly straight.

 

I don’t think my alignment is perfect but it’s as straight as I can get it. And it keeps coming back when I move. Hmmm

 

Likely need a wheel alignment first. Any chance a sensor was damaged during repairs/removal/welding of your spindles?

 

No I was extra careful. Nothing hung either like the rotors. I was extra careful. But I reset it a third time and hasn’t turned on. Gonna go take a drive down street and back. I had it aligned at an alignment shop and they got it as close as they could. They bitched about no camber adjustment with my jabs but I think the dude was just lazy

 

Seems to be working. We will see I drove it a quarter mile around corner.

 

Nope-- back on. Need zero point alignment i guess. I'll try another shop. The last one literally took 5 hours and wasted my entire day.

 

Can confirm this method works. I purchased the 5210 model on Amazon. I’m glad I saw this post for the past week my stability and collision lights have been non stop flashing at me but didn’t want to go spend money at the dealership. Thanks for the info

 

I also had this issue after a 5100 lift and subsequent alignment. I reached out to the shop and they said their tech should have cleared the codes for me, but I already had bought the

Good thread. Is this steering angle zero input inaccurate or is it accurate, as to why my slip light would be flashing going around sharp turns, and letting the wheel feed out on its own? I did a zero point calibration, but from what you guys said, it seems like a zero point calibration doesn’t affect the steering angle sensor.

 

Can confirm the Inova 5210 works to clear the VSC and precollision warning light. I was messing with my camber bolts to get max caster and it threw my toe specs way off. Drove to the alignment shop and the two warning lights turned on. After alignment, drove for about 50 miles and the light still stayed on. Purchased the OBD2 scanner and was able to erase the VSC and precollision warning lights. I believe any OBD2 reader that has an ABS reader function will suffice.

 

Got this innova 5120 scanner off Amazon and attempted to clear ABS codes c4133 “ steering angle, internal circuit”. Erased code but it comes right back after clearing it . I don’t think with a 5120 you can perform a zero point recalibration. The only “service / reset” option the 5120 gives you is oil reset. You need a different scanner to actually re zero or reset , maybe like techstream (or innova 5610) ? pretty sure the steering angle sensor itself is fine. The error popped up after changing steering rack bushings. Everything was fine before that.

 

Yea, I cleared my codes but now the code reads "steering angle sensor operated too long without initialization" or something like that. Would be nice to know what the initialization process is. I've read like "with ignition on, car not running, turn all the way to the right, hold it for 5 seconds, turn all the way to the left, hold it for 5 seconds, then back to center" turn off ignition.....still get errors after about 5 minutes of driving.

I'm going through the painful install of Techstream, now looking for the best cable....

My situation

I reinstalled my front icon 2.5 shocks with the goal to have an alignment immediately after. Driving to the shop, I had severe pulling to the left. I had to hold the wheel about 20-degrees clockwise to compensate and go straight. (Photo attached)

About 3 miles in, the VCS message appears on the dash, pre-collision detection shuts off, and I get a message to bring it to the dealer.

I get the alignment and everything is good and straight but the warnings were still persistent.

The alignment shop advised I disconnect the battery overnight to clear the computer memory. I was inpatient and didn’t try this.

I did some research (lots of research). And attempted themanual OBD jump with a paperclip - this did not work.

Toyota was charging me $200 just for them to inspect the car not even including the service.

Another local shop said they might be able to fix it but wasn’t available until the following day.

How I Used It
Plugged it in > system status > selected my vehicle > erased all ABS codes > all lights disappeared.

I’ve turned my truck on /off twice and haven’t had the warnings reappear.

is the innova device actually calibrating whatever needs to be calibrated? or is it just deleting the codes?

My guess is that it's just deleting the codes, not actually doing a calibration. Any scan tool that has abs function can clear the codes. Doing the actual calibration requires something else. I'm guessing you need a certain scan tool that can to do a calibration. Trying to avoid shoving paperclips in my odb2 port.
