My wife and I were walking downtown when she stopped to admire a dress in a shop window. I could tell she really liked it. So being the generous guy I am, I decided to let her walk by it again tomorrow.

This one's a repeat.


Unsupervised or stray dogs will find trouble...eventually.
Especially if they form a pack.
"Oh, my sweet Buster would never cause any trouble"
...yes he would...given half a chance.
And when he does, it's the owner's goddamn fault.

Dogs once got in the chicken coop and killed several laying hens.
They may have taken a couple with them to eat, but they left some dead in the coop.
It was a bloody mess.
My Dad said: "They'll be back and we'll be waiting for them."

Sure enough next evening we're sitting on the back porch with rifles at the ready.
I was maybe 13?

"Here they come. You take the big one closest to us."
Two dogs.
Bang bang, done.

My Dad calls animal control.
I forget the actual title of the guy.
Maybe County Farm Extension Officer?
He comes and looks around, writes the report.
We plant the dogs.

So the owner is stupid enough to notify animal control about his missing dogs.
He was some guy whose family had money and bought a few acres with a farmhouse.
He fancied himself a "gentleman farmer".
You know the type.
Didn't know jack shit about farming or country life or much of anything.

The officer phones him, tells him what happened and says meet me and we'll go talk to the people who shot your dogs.
I was present when he arrived, all irate, talking about pressing charges.

The officer lets him talk for awhile, then tells him he won't be the one pressing charges.
"Let's see, failing to control your animals, trespass, destruction of property..."
He turns to my Dad and says, "will you be pressing charges?"

My Dad looked the guy in the eye for a bit, took his sweet time...and said no.
