If anyone is unclear on what the Tacoma Cab Mount looks like it does, consider that the cab-mount structure is much wider than needed to simply support the cab via the cab mount bushing. That extra “nub” that sticks out way past the actual round rubber cab mount, is there for its wheel intrusion function. It’s the only reason the cab mount is as big (wide) as it is.

This. That is the only protection for your left foot other than sheet metal in the cowl/A-pillar area. Imagine taking the mount out completely. The bolt goes thru the driver floor. Pretend your foot is there when someone hits the wheel at just the right angle and drives the tire back. The passenger compartment will collapse and you get a broken foot/leg

The part circled in red only protrudes as much as it does to achieve the crash-worthiness goals.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

    And you're missing the point.

If I lose a leg... in my truck... due to a fender bender... because I... did a CMC. The blame of the CMC can't be passed to the other driver. So your analogy is completely backwards.

The underwritter is going to be looking at what caused the accident, and where to put fault... which will have absolutley nothing to do with the CMC.

And what you're missing here is the CMC most likely INCREASES the strength of that area.

LMFAO... so you think an insurance company is going to bring out a biomechanical engineer to prove my modification, to my truck, caused me, more injury?

    Somewhere hot, flat and brown.
If the amount in controversy is high enough, yes.

    Drive safely, sir.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

So funny! Why wouldn’t Toyota do it at the factory for an even better crash rating!

I work with Engineers every day.

100% of the time, if you put an engineer in a room full of people, the engineer is the dumbest person in the room.

Because the entire auto industry is pretty much in a race to the minimum standard.

Auto engineers spend a lot more of their time engineering it cheaper, than engineering it better.

Ok. Absolutely I agree!!! Having some Jabroni weld a plate cut outta a piece of scrap steel onto the frame is too much for Toyota to handle! It would blow the cost of Tacomas through the roof. I see it all now!

    thank you!

Lmao at the so-called engineers babbling on about comprising the structural integrity of this "high strength" steel while not even knowing what kind of strength it refers to. Typical blow hard know nothings. Here's a clue...mpa is tensile strength. It freaking sheet metal that can be bent/rolled into different shapes (frames, cab mounts, blah blah blah) without comprising the strength of the sheet metal.

But sure, keep blowing more smoke up your own asses and telling yourself how smart you are.

FFS, some of you people are so full of shit.

They really won’t, whatever injury incurred isn’t worth the time and effort to investigate whatever modification had any direct difference in the amount of damage sustained. Proving the modification caused you to have a broken vs severed foot after the fact is kind of a moot point. In the end, policy premiums get maxed out and unless someone was killed and it needed to be investigated for some sort of fraud/intentional act, no one cares.

Maybe it’s been said already but if people are debating the ramifications from modifying their truck causing an unsafe vehicle need to just leave it alone and stop crying on the internet? :)

I'm 58. Been an engineer for 32 years. Design off highway mobile equipment. Was chopping frames in the late 70's. Suffice to say I know a CMC. Or do you want other proof?

I wish Toyota could engineer a frame that doesn't rust faster than a Wrangler (that's fast by the way).

These dudes talking about biomechanical engineers and shit

I'll telly uou what happens in 99% of vehicular accidents, that LEO shows up to. Including fatality accidents.

Highway Patrol takes some measurements, snaps some photos, writes down some statements... car gets hauled to either a mechanic, or a salvage yard.

Even in a letigious State like California... Highway Patrol shows up maybe 50% of the time unless someone is dead.

I can see it now... The other insurance's laywer... "But, but, but I know your honor. My client was intoxicated beyond the legal limit, but I need to share this point made by the biomechanical engineer, that the only reason the other driver broke his leg was because he performed a cab mount chop to his vehicle."
