Does any body know of anybody that would like or need to mount a second alternator on their truck?
I made a bracket that will mount a GM bolt pattern 370amp hair pin alternator to any 4.0L Toyota engine.

I picked the GM alternator because it is has the most options of all aftermarket Hairpin alternators.

With a DC power 270dx in the stock location and a Autotech 370 I am putting out 408 amps at idle and 622 amps while cruising. Both alternators are Denso hairpin style alternators.

I believe that with this set up you will be able to power larger inverters, winch, and off road lights without issue.

I am trying to gauge interest to see if I should offer kits for sale and or local installation. I will see if i can post some pictures later.

This is already done with just a 2nd battery.

But I think this would be more geared to the "Big Audio" guys

    Pics?

Hey there and Welcome to TW!
Before you offer to sell the bracket or kits.
I encourage you to read the Buy/Sale/Trade FAQ.

As of now, you look to be all clear. As you are only gauging interest:thumbsup:

I’m seriously not picking on you either.
I’ve never seen this done. And find it quite interesting.
Hopefully it works out, this could be a good product.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

"I am putting out 408 amps at idle and 622 amps while cruising" What loads are you drawing that require this? Do you mean, you have the capability to put out those loads? Current is only fed to the power device that is requiring it; otherwise you have alot of potential energy sitting there waiting to be used.

I've never seen a car draw more than 50-60 amps even with the bright lights on and maybe putting down all 4 windows at once with the AC running. Why you'd need 622 amps is beyond me unless you are running a mobile concert truck.

I think this may be the dude thats got a business where he quick charges Tesla’s while in motion on the highway. Bumper to bumper with a six foot retractable pole he can charge ‘em to 100 percent in only 30 miles.

I was using this for Ham radio. I am now using this power for a competition audio system. I think the Overland group would be able to use the added power so they would not have to pack a generator. A 270 alt and 2 batteries will only go so far.
Here are some pictures as promised.

Kinda hard to get a good picture down there. What planet were you able to talk to with that much current draw from a Ham radio? What antenna were you pushing that through? As I suspected, big audio, try posting in the audio section.

Looks nice. How have you handled the load sharing and voltage regulation?

Both alternators are on one battery you can see both of the 4/0 cables on the positive battery terminal. This has been running for 4200 miles so far with out issue. Both Alts are putting out 14.4-14.6 volts. Both alternators load and unload about the same time. There are no issues sharing one battery.

I made the comment about a 270 alt and 2 batteries because another post said that this has been done all ready and that is all you need. I am running one battery and 2 alternators. I will add more batteries soon for storage.

I get it. This is not for everybody. This is for the people that want redundancy and a lot of power for running inverters and other loads when no genset is available.

With the right inverter this should make 30-40 amps @ 120vac while idling.

I am into car audio and high powered amplifiers around 10,000 watts require about 700amps at max draw. I actually had one that I sold because I thought I would never be able to use it in the Tacoma. :annoyed:

My ham radio and inverter would kill my battery pretty fast with a 270dx alt and one battery. Adding a second battery would only let run a little longer.

I pulled out that gear and now am working on a big system with my son. We will use all that power and still need more.

that would be a crazy setup for sure. the 270 alone is likely more than enough. I have been running with offroad (with solar and dc charger) without issues but was looking at adding the 270 DC alt you noted. Talking with them that would be more than enough for anything we can toss at it. Curious to see how 2 alternators would go
