Mainly I was pointing out that he was factually and truthfully wrong. I realize some of the posting is goading, just as you did in your first and second sentences. My hackles are not up, and I totally agree some companies have abused the method, just as some companies abuse or misuse traditional retail. I am very mindful of the amateur label attributed to the Amsoil dealer and have tried to not be that guy. I have knowledge accumulated for years, a BS is chemistry and keep my training up to date. But people also easily forget about the guy or gal selling you oil at PepBoys or Autozone or Schucks.

I think there is a difference in some companies MLM practices, and most folks are not aware of the details. Amsoil only allows 3 levels, so it's not really endless and certainly any people I work with know it's not some kind of get rich scheme. Funny some dealers even ask "Don't I have to buy something, like a minimum buy?" Nope, nada. You don't even have to sell anything if you don't want to (makes no sense, but is true). Pressure? Sure, it's sales, and frankly sales sucks, I dislike that aspect. I'm timid by nature. But after 21+ years, yeah decently successful.

+1 for Pennzoil. Used this on all of my previous vehicles and never had any issues. Drove for 8-9k miles at a time until oil change indicator came on.

Just bought my Taco 2 months ago... deciding whether to utilize the 2yr maintenance program or not, as I've heard some horror stories (dumb and careless tech guys) and should just do it myself.

I did not. My dealer is 2 hours away, it's only 2 free oil changes, and I only trust myself for PM on my rigs.

Amsoil for the engine is fine with me, their filters also, been using their products since 1990. I'm particularly fond of the Severe Gear gear fluid. A big deal to me is I'm supporting a small business in my town. Amsoil has been the go to for many people since the mid-'60's. You don't stay in business that long unless you produce a quality product with return customers.

Sorry fan boy, but your liquid gold is just liquid that someone gets paid by saying it is so great followed by someone else getting paid. They skirt the law, but it is a pyramid none the less. Of course you fan boys are well versed and rehearsed in your responses to this, but there is no denying that it is multi level marketing. Every time you point this out you start touting how great of a product it is and how it is superior in every way. Why? because you have two types of people that make this work. You have sheep and wolves in sheep's clothing. The internet was the best thing that could have happened to Amway oil. Clowns talking about how great it is to unsuspecting sheep that take the bait. The reality is that these claims of how great it is are not easily substantiated and since it is such a small niche market of kooks that get off on reciting their zinc numbers that it really isn't worth the time for the rest of us to even bother. Millions and millions of cars are out there without amway oil and I have yet to see a single one have an oil related issue following standard maintenance procedures. Even if this product were so great, the reality is that you don't need it. There are probably 1000 other items on your vehicle that will break long before you have a lubricant related failure. You want to waste your time, go ahead. Just don't cry when those that know that you are crazy point out your nonsense. Meanwhile the wolves will sit back and count your money.

I find it surprising all the hate towards amsoil. There’s a lot of independent reviews. Mostly on YouTube from normal people that seem to point out that amsoil is in fact really great oil in many of there product lines. anyways I’ve been happy with mine so far and compared to the price of oil from the dealer, Which I think is the biggest scam of them all, it doesn’t seem too bad.

Been using their severe 75-90W gear oil, and synthetic grease for years....they've been very good. I think its the price dealers charge that bother some more than anything else.

Saw this on the front page and was going to chime in that Amsoil is to men what Herbalife is to women, but I see y'all got pretty well covered.

Down with MLMs, in all of their forms. Disgusting, predatory way to structure a business.

TGMO is actually very good quality. Contains high amounts of molybdenum.

I just really don’t like that it comes in those stupid quart jugs.

Have you seen any of the Tacoma forums on facebook? They are littered with guys trying to sell amsoil to people.

ANY OIL that meets the API specification and the viscosity requirements in the Owner's Manual are good to go.

The brand is immaterial. The brand only impacts how quickly your wallet empties.

Sure, you can get some "Bro Brag" rights based on the brand of oil you use.

I'd use cooking oil if it met the specs.....

What ever is on sale at Walmart with a brand name. My commune to work and back was 100 miles a day I did a rough calculation when I retired of 600 and 75 thousand miles even used "gasp" Fram filters!
