What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Had some time this midmorning so I decided to clean up the engine bay a little bit, since it has not been done by me since getting the truck early March this year. Had the typical thin film of black shit and dust so not a terrible task except the sun was out to destroy me. A nice detailer brush was used since the grime was not extensive and the nozzle set to mist so not to try and drown the truck. Once all nice and clean fired up the air compressor and and blew out all the water from every nook and cranny. I could have stopped there but I decided to use a new product I got from Chemical Guys to add a little protection from the buildup (hopefully) and a matte like luster to some of the plastics. That was clearly the easy part but I am really happy the way it came out. Sorry I didn't get any before pics. I didn't go all ape shit with the spray but just enough to make a visble difference, plus it smells really good like grapes.

 

Great job, can't even tell you took the emblems off.

 

hey buddy i have them on my 2017 tacoma made a huge difference. engine feels smoother and im getting about +3mpg, don't expect huge power gains what you get is smooth engine.

 

Should i get rid of my caper shell and go with a bed top? Edit* i have my tools in there but nothing passes over the bed line

 

Only you can answer that question. I would like to have both if I can find one cheap enough.

 

Maybe she just needs some prinsu racks on the cab and shell and some more gear to give her some more look

I was thinking of doing this as well. I like that it's not at all overboard. Eventually, I'd like to get Katzkin seat covers in black with dark gray inserts, and blue stitching. I waited 3 months to get Voodoo Blue, dammit. I want to sprinkle a little bit of it inside too.

Removal was not too bad. I cut the rivet heads into crosses and used my air chisel to cut the heads off (If you don't cut the crosses it will take a bit longer and eat up the edge of the chisel).
I used a flapper wheel to grind the heads flush to the frame and then used a ball joint press (C-Clamp like) to push the remaining part of the rivets out. Step bit was used to open the holes up to the proper diameter.
Maybe an hour per side. Worst part was me working on the ground (50 years old LOL).

Mobtown Offroad rock sliders managed to get on the truck today. Extremely long lead time and out-of-date installation instructions considered, I'm still satisfied overall. They're a great design.
